What is an undertone? An undertone is the shade of your skin’s surface. Therefore, it can affect the overall color of your skin when you apply your foundation. The three types of undertones are cool, warm, and neutral. In this section, we’ll take a closer look at these undertones.
You have a warm undertone if your skin is more on the yellow hue or different golden shades of brown. You have a cool tone if your skin is more on the pinkish or reddish side. Meanwhile, a combination of yellow and pink skin hues means you have a neutral tone.
When you are unsure whether you have a warm or cool tone, you can opt for neutral hues that complement your skin. If you look great in black and white, you could have a cool undertone. On the other hand, if you look great in cream, tan, ivory, or off-white, your undertone could be warm.
Once you figure out your undertone, it is recommended to try different foundations first. Although the brand is important, the foundation you pick should be meant for the undertone you have.
