The Quest for a Holy Grail Semi-Matte Lipstick Stops Here: Givenchy Le Rouge Reviews, Photos, Swatches

Brace yourselves, ladies and gentlemen. Here come today’s pretties!

Givenchy Le Rouge 102 and 301

Givenchy Le Rouge (CDN $38 / US $36, exclusively at Sephora) is a modern semi-matte lipstick. It is silky, lightweight and reflects light to bring dimension to the lips. Both shades I tried are packed with pigment so they cover the lips in one swipe. This is the best semi-matte formula I’ve ever tried. Its velvety texture is something I would liken to Giorgio Armani’s Maestro Foundation. It doesn’t migrate out of my lip lines after I apply; it just sets to a beautiful silky, almost powder-like finish. This lipstick is longer lasting than most of my lipsticks. It may or may not have outlasted a McDonald’s combo of quarter pounder with cheese and french fries. Ahem.

Givenchy did not only make a great makeup product here, but they also cased the bullets in hefty, soft leather and chrome covers. Meow! So sexy. If the packaging was fugly I probably would still want to buy all the lipsticks! anyway.

102 Beige Plume is peachy brown. On me, it is a warm nude colour that is a safe bet for the office. It’s sweet and demure, and so perfect.

301 Magnolia Organza is a vibrant reddish pink. It’s hard not to feel a little bit sassy with this one on. Work it, baby!

At $38 a piece, Givenchy Le Rouge is definitely a luxury product, but one I’d bet most of you will love. This is pretty much holy grail material right here. Have you tried Givenchy Le Rouge? What are your thoughts on the formula?

Magnolia is divine wowza!! Actually I cannot stop staring about both of them. I have to try at least one!

    • http://www.glittergeek.ca/ Arianne

      You definitely must try! :)

Gorgeous! I have Magnolia Organza, but that Beige Plume looks divine! I’m into nudes for some odd reason right now.

    • http://www.glittergeek.ca/ Arianne

Nudes are in and are shmexxxy. :D You too, eh? I wear a lot of nudes now. It’s easier during allergy season so I don’t have to worry about red lipstick smears on my cheek… or my nose.

They are pretty awesome right? The packaging is just really my thing, so pretty! I love both shades you got, the natural shade is perfect, not too brown either ^^. And the second shade is just such a fun bright pink for the summer! Have you seen the summer collection with the white packaging? I have the lipstick and the packaging is just so cool! ^^

I just saw them online, Teri! (from your blog) I love!!! I need to check out the coral in person.

  • http://nothingspaces.com Carina

OOOH THESE ARE SUPER BEAUTIFUL. Too bad we don’t get Givenchy here. Omg, though. I love the colors you got.

    • http://www.glittergeek.ca/ Arianne

Ohh that’s too bad Carina. Maybe you can swap for them.

Ahhh why did you have to show me Magnolia Organza? Now I want it!!! I really like this line. The formula works well for me, and I’d honestly wear the majority of the shades. I’m also happy they aren’t as heavily-scented as Givenchy’s other lip products. That’s a bonus in my book!

    • http://www.glittergeek.ca/ Arianne

What shade do you own, Sunny? :) I really like the scent. It’s super subtle and I don’t even know what it is, but it’s pleasant.

Hey Arianne, I have Carmin Escarpin! It has an orange undertone when you first put it on, but after it has been worn off a little the undertone looks fuchsia instead! It’s like magic :)

Beige Plume is sooo pretty!!! I just can’t wait for my Sephora to get these. As of last weekend they still hadn’t received them.

    • http://www.glittergeek.ca/ Arianne

Hope you get them soon. I say everybody needs at least one!

  • AlinaValero

I’m wearing 307 Grenat Initie today! I also just bought the two LE Summer shade (in white leather tubes!) SO AMAZING.

I just had to stop by Sephora.com to see them. Ahhh I want the coral!

This is the second time I’m seeing Magnolia Organza. And the second time I’m thinking $36.00 is reasonable for a lipstick. This is scary!

    • http://www.glittergeek.ca/ Arianne

      /thumbs up!/

  • http://kelly-yes.blogspot.com Kelly

Ack both shades look wonderful on you! How do you make every lipstick shade look good? Sorcery! ;)

    WANT. WANT. WANT.

….WANT! These look amazing Arianne, and that second color – POW! Right up my alley!

    • http://www.glittergeek.ca/ Arianne

You definitely want and NEED Magnolia Organza. Will just pop against your golden skin tone. :)

Love how Magnolia Organza Swatch looks on you. I don’t usually go for this type of bright lips, but I’m loving how it looks.

    • http://www.glittergeek.ca/ Arianne

You have to try it to know if you like it. :) I bet you will!

  • http://www.glambunctious.com/ Kristen / Glambunctious

Oh my goodness, you are adorable! These both look smashing on you. LOL @ them surviving a quarter pounder with cheese and french fries!

  • http://twitter.com/JFunnyValentine Jenny W

Both are gorgeous on you, and the eye makeup is so sex kittenish- love it. What’s the difference between a semi matte and a satin finish Arianne?

    • http://www.glittergeek.ca/ Arianne

Hi Jenny, I guess it is a satin! I don’t usually use that term when it comes to lipsticks, but that’s what most closely resembles this. The texture still does have a bit more slip than say, the MAC Satin lipsticks, and it is super velvety!

  • murt

Both of those look amazing on you – by the way you really have the most gorgeous skin!
