Lipstick Bandits: Sheer for Summer with L’Oreal Colour Riche Caresse Lipcolour

Have you jumped on the sheer lipstick train? These new lipstick/gloss/balm hybrids have been very popular in the past year. There’s no denying that they are great for a no-fuss summer makeup regimen. I have only tried a few (the Rouge d’Armani Sheer is fantastic!) and there are definitely good and bad ones out there. But today, I will only tell you about an incredible lipstick for this latest instalment of the Lipstick Bandits collaborations.

L’Oreal Colour Riche Caresse Lipcolour in 175 Violet Chiffon

My pick is L’Oreal Colour Riche Caresse Lipcolour in 175 Violet Chiffon ($12.99).  I am not one to choose violet for a lip colour, but this sheer violet lipstick is quite wearable.  So I like to wear opaque statement lips.  I’m still not sure that sheer lips are for me, but I really gravitate towards the boldness of this colour.

I love the formula, too. It is weightless and not too slippery. It is shiny like a gloss so it makes my lips look extra plump. What’s not to love, eh? 🙂 It smells like sweet candy straight out of the tube, but don’t worry if you have a fragrance-sensitive nose; the scent fades to nothing after a couple of minutes. If violet lips aren’t your thing, there are 11 other shades to choose from.

Now tell me, what’s your favourite sheer lipstick formula? Or, do you not care at all for this trend? I personally still go for fully opaque lipstick, but I appreciate the easy application of a sheer lipstick.

  • This is such a fun shade, and I like how the formula makes such a bold color wearable! I started out getting into lipsticks with sheerer formulas, and I continue to appreciate sheerer formulas when it comes to colors that I don’t have the confidence to wear full-on!

    • What’s your go-to sheer lipstick, Sunny?

  • I’m not a huge fan of sheer lipsticks. I feel like my lips are pigmented enough to benefit from thicker formulas. But for light days I really like Revlon Super Lustrous formulas, especially Just Enough Buff and Demure.

    • I’ll have to check out the Super Lustrous formula. Thanks for the recommendation, Alison M!

  • I’m always a little scared of purple lip colours but you’ve changed my mind, this one suits you really well.

    Ria x

    • Thanks Ria! Don’t be afraid to experiment. You never know until you try them on. They’re not all the same shade of purple.

  • Love the color! Wasn’t expecting that from the looks of it in the tube.

    • Not what I expected either, Kayla. It’s beautiful, eh?

  • I love these caresse lipsticks so much, but this shade has to be my favourite. It looks so good on you.

    • Thanks so much Jill. 🙂

  • I LOVE that shade, Arianne! Violet is an awesome shade. I wanted to try one of these – I think I will!

    • Thanks Larie! You should definitely check them out. I’m not sure if they’re in the States yet.

  • Liz

My fave sheer is the Clinique Chubby Sticks… but now you’ve put this L’Oreal shade on my radar.

    • I haven’t tried the Chubby Sticks. T_T

  • Isn’t violet lips SO fun? 🙂

    • Wandz! This one is. Still not sure about other kinds of violet lipstick. I think what makes this one work is the strong pink tone.

  • I absolutely love it! What a great original choice!!

  • SO PRETTY! Gahh woman, is there a shade of lipstick that doesn’t look good on you? 🙂 Love it!

    • Yes, Tracy! Nicki Minaj pink. 😉 Thanks friend.

  • Kristi C. (@lov2read68)

This comes off as a very wearable color! I’m surprised – just goes to show you should never judge a book by the cover or in this case color in the tube! Haven’t tried the Caresse line yet.

    • Hi Kristi! I’m not sure if the Caresse line is available yet in the US. Last I heard they are Europe and Canada only. I hope it comes to the States soon enough.

  • Wow–this is super pretty on you! It’s bold without being over the top. I just got 4 of the U.S versions of these lipsticks recently and am in the middle of reviewing them. So far so good!

    • Oooh I can’t wait to see them on you Becca. 🙂

  • I love that you picked a sheer violet, of all things! Looks fantastic on you, but still very wearable.

    • Thank you MM! 🙂 I change it up; keep you guys guessing. Hahaha.

  • Looks gorgeous on you! I love these lipsticks too, they are great for their price! Another sheer ls that I love are the Dior Addict Extremes, they slightly tint my lips, so they have great staying power :).

    • It’s seems that EVERYBODY has used and loved the Dior Addict Extremes except me, Teri. I must remedy that, STAT.

  • Danielle

So SO gorgeous! And totally unexpected! I love this shade on you. Mrow! (my imitation of Scherbz)

  • *GASP*

Ok, when are these gonna be available in Vancouver? Because I need this in my life! Such a stunning shade! <3

  • Oh my Arianne, I was a little afraid of the colour at first but on you, WOW! I love how it looks! I think it will look a wee gothic on me but still, one never knows 😀 Not sure if we’ll get this line here but I’ll be sure to check this out if we do 😀

  • I prefer opaque lipstick, too! If I want that sheer lip look, I prefer the more moisturizing tinted balms out there to sheer lipsticks.

  • I’m not sure how I feel about the trend – I’m certainly not adverse at all, but I guess if I’m going to wear lipstick I kind of want to make a statement, so sheer isn’t the first thing I think of! However, this shade is fabulous Arianne, and I think the cooler tone means a sheer formula would be the best way for me to wear it. So in this case, sheer all the way!

  • I’m not quite sure how I feel about sheer lipsticks. Sometimes I’ll ask myself what the point in them is, if we already have tinted lip balms for same purpose but on other days it makes sense. But in the end, I think I prefer sheer lipsticks anyhow. They’re just so darned easy to wear.. and pretty :3

  • Such a pretty violet, it suits your complexion really well! Some shades of purple/violet really makes me look ghastly. But I’m really tempted to try violet chiffon now, after seeing it fare so well on your skin tone.

  • Woman! You are so damn gorgeous! So jealous of your haiiiiir! 🙂

  • That is an amazing shade. Looks great for summer!

  • Meg

I love the look of that shade! I have dating coral and cheeky magenta but I don’t think I’ve seen that shade in the UK?

    • Hi Meg! The shade names are different here than the ones from the UK. Not sure which one this corresponds to in your shade range.

  • Oh my gosh, that purple is so pretty! I’ve been wanting to try a shade like that for awhile now but I was always hesitant and wondered what it would even look like. I really love it though, I think you just made my mind up now!
