Fighting a Makeup Rut EOTD: I’ve Got the Blues.

I’m still fighting through my makeup rut so yesterday I ventured into smoky eyes.  I didn’t want to wear the usual grey/black smoky eye; instead I wore blues.

Get the Look

  1. Use Annabelle Taupe Eyebrow Pencil (Quo discontinued my beloved 3-in-1, so sad!) to fill the brows.  A smoky eye is never complete without a good brow.
  2. For depth, apply Annabelle B-Ray Eyeshadow (matte deep navy) all over the lid and blended out slightly above the crease.  Smudge B-Ray on the outer 2/3 of your lower lashline.  (Damn you, Rae for messing up my low buy :P )
  3. After misting a flat shadow brush with MAC Fix+, take a little bit of Sassy Minerals Jinx Eyeshadow (sparkly aqua) on the brush and pat all over B-Ray.  This will add the sparkle to your smoky eye.  Smudge over B-Ray along the lower lashline; this time, go all the way in to the inner corner.
  4. Add a teeny bit of MAC Carbon Eyeshadow (matte black) on the outer V bring in slightly to the crease.
  5. To add warmth and to bring the look together, blend MAC Soft Brown Eyeshadow (matte medium warm brown) above the blues.
  6. Dip a Q-tip in makeup remover, and clean up the shape so that you get slight wing. Don’t forget to re-touch the outer corners with foundation or concealer. Lightly blend out the outer corner to soften the wing.
  7. Use Urban Decay Zero Eyeliner Pencil (creamy black) to line the upper lashline, and upper and lower waterlines.
  8. Put on a good volumizing mascara.  Here I used MUFE Smoky Lash Mascara.  Sorry about the clumps!  I was taking tons of pictures when I realized that I didn’t have mascara on, so this was a quick swipe of mascara before I took one last pic before running out the door.

To My Brown Eyed Girls…

Have you ventured into blue eyeshadow or eyeliner yet?  If not, you have to!  It really brings out browns like no other. :)

  1. Oh wow, this is gorgeous! I’ve added this to the list of reasons I need Soft Brown.

I’m envious you get you pics to come out so well too, I’m still working on that. Maybe I’ll start posting EOTDs if I ever figure it out haha

    • Oh hon, my pictures are crap! Today I discovered “auto tone” or whatever it’s called in Photoshop. :P

All I do is to make sure my camera is set to Macro mode, then I colour correct on the computer. No flash is better, and I rest my elbow on something so the close ups aren’t blurry. Easy peasy, right? :) I’d love to see your EOTDs.

    • LOL! Thank you. That’s a huge compliment coming from you, the creator of the Sex Kitten eye. ;) I still feel like a bit of a noobie when it comes to blending eyeshadow. I think I’m getting a lot better though!

    • It’s not hard at all :) What I did was blend out the shadows as usual, then clean it up with Q-tip (dipped in makeup remover) and to do the hard wing shape. I probably should add that in the how-to. :P

It’s actually very hard for me to do a rounded shape with my eyeshadows. I can’t seem to find a good rounded shape for my own eyes.

  2. 1 – hawt!

2 – I just added Annabelle B-Ray to my list of things to buy when I am no longer on my no buy.

3 – hawt! Had to say it again :)

4 – I do use blue eyeliner (Hello Lancome’s gel liner) and also been using Estee Lauder’s blue mascara. Really makes my eyes pop.

    • Do you guys get Annabelle out there? If you don’t, the colour is getting discontinued at the end of the month. I can do a CP for you if you like? And if you have other Canadian brands you wanna try. :) I can just keep it until you are out of your no buy. Let me know!

      Mmm Lancome Indigo is love!

      • I am on a no buy until the end of the year. eekk! I don’t know if we have Annabelle here. You know what I am looking for is the Trisan cleanser. That’s a canadian brand, right? I can’t find it anywhere in the US.

But since the color is being discontinued maybe I should get it. Do you know how much it costs?
.-= marisol´s last blog ..This is me lately =-.

        • B-Ray comes in an eyeshadow pan (no pot, same size as MAC’s) and only costs CDN$4. It’s a really awesome matte navy if you don’t already have one you love.

I’ve never heard of Trisan but after doing a quick search online it looks like it’s available at the drugstore. I can check for you tomorrow. :)

          • Wow that is cheap! If you can, would you be able to get both the cleanser & the shadow? I can PP you the money. Thanks!

I should add an asterisk to my no buy for these kinds of exceptions. Well, I do need a cleanser. I’m running low on my MAC one so I started using my Shu cleansing oil. But then I started breaking out which is why I had stopped using it. Have you tried the Shu cleansing oils?
.-= marisol´s last blog ..This is me lately =-.

            • Yeah, Annabelle is one of those cheap Canadian brands that have hidden gems within their line. ;) What size cleanser did you want: 225 or 500 mL?

Too bad you had a bad reaction to the cleansing oils! I haven’t used the shu or any cleansing oils before. I only use Philosophy Purity Made Simple because my skin reacts well to it. :)

  3. This is absolutely gorgeous. Perfectly executed, and I love your use of the soft brown shadow…you’re right that it really does pull the look together. You’re using my favorite Smoky Lash mascara, too!

I’m officially adding you to my list of favorite beauty bloggers (I know I’m late to the party, LOL!) Everything I’ve seen from you has been spot-on. I love that you’re not afraid of color, you wear it well, your photos are clear, your writing isn’t self-conscious, your lip swatches are fantastic, and your skin tone is deep enough for me to get an idea of how colors might look on me. What more can I ask for? ;)
