So… I kinda took a while with these (sorry!). I’m getting the rest of the collection in one shot with reviews and swatches-slash-Geeks-face-fest! Hope you enjoy the ride. :)

First up, there are three new shades of YSL Crème de Blush ($52). Nº 7 Red Agate is rose pink. Nº 8 Baby Doll is brownish red. Nº 9 Rose Quartz is light yellow-toned pink. Below are very heavy swatches so you can see the colour, and also the mousse-like texture of these blushes. These cream blushes dry down to a velvety powder finish.

In a pinch, I use my fingers with these blushes, but I find that synthetic brushes work better. I really like Real Techniques Contour brush from the Core Collection ($27.99 at FarleyCo and Walmart in Canada!) with these. Brushes let you apply the product in even, thin layers, and build the product on the skin if you need to. With my fingers, sometimes it gets to thick and ends up looking thick and patchy. When applied correctly these blushes produce believable radiant, blushing skin.

Nº 7 Red Agate is bright rose pink. I think this will be flattering on every skin tone.

My “Crazy Fairy” YSL Arty Stone Collection for Spring 2013 Look

I need to stop the onslaught of reviews and post a look for my own sanity. I wanted to challenge myself and use all the shades from the Y Facettes Pure Chromatics Eye Collector Palette Nº 14 in one eye look. Before I continue with the rest of the reviews for YSL Arty Stone Collection for Spring 2013, I wanted to show you a look using the products. I like it, and hope you do too! Mr. Geeks sure didn’t.

Mr. Geeks: “Blue eyeshadow. Pft.”
Me: “It’s green.”

Boys: can’t live with them!

Get the Look

For the eyes, wet a brush and pick up Malachite (green) and pat onto the inner 2/3 of the lid and crease, and lower lash line. Next, flip the brush and pick up the Azurite (blue) and apply along the outer lid and crease, and outer 1/3 of the lower lash line. With a crease brush, apply a small amount of matte chocolate brown to the crease to create a soft contour. Next, apply Amethyst (violet) dry with a fluffy blending brush along the crease. Highlight under the brows and inner corners with Fluorite (pink).

Line the top lash line and waterline with a black pencil (YSL Waterproof Eye Pencil in 1 Black Ink), and the bottom waterline with an emerald green pencil (Marcelle Waterproof Eyeliner in Metal Green). Curl your lashes and apply loads of mascara (Annabelle Le Big Show).

For the cheeks, using your fingers, apply Crème de Blush in Nº 9 Rose Quartz on top of the cheekbones and extend up towards the temples and brow bones. Then, apply Crème de Blush in Nº 8 Baby Doll on the contours of the cheeks to sculpt those cheekbones, baby doll!

For the lips, apply two layers of Rouge Pur Couture Vernis à Lèvres in Nº 27 Pêche Cerra-Colla.

Y Facettes Pure Chromatics Eye Collector Palette in Nº 14

YSL Y Facettes Pure Chromatics Eye Collector Palette in Nº 14 ($74) is the single eye palette released for YSL Arty Stone Collection for Spring 2013. Four shades of sparkling pastels — Malachite (green), Fluorite (pink), Amethyst (violet) and Azurite (blue) — make up this limited edition palette.

These eyeshadows’ formula is very typical for Pure Chromatics eyeshadows: very sheer with soft sparkles when dry, and vibrant with shimmery when wet. The pink shade contains scattered shimmers, while the rest contain a metallic finish.

Although I’m not usually a fan of pastels, I actually like this palette. However, I would’ve liked to see at least one darker shade. Amethyst is the smokiest of them all, but I’d still anchor it with a dark eyeliner underneath to provide definition. This isn’t the kind of palette that’s easy to wear all at once, but one sure can try. Challenge accepted! :P
