Matte Lips for Fall: shu uemura rouge unlimited supreme matte Lipstick.

Brace yourselves, ladies and gentlemen!  I’m so excited to review and swatch shu uemura rouge unlimited supreme matte lipsticks ($36), as their cousins, the shu uemura rouge unlimited is one of my favourite lipstick formulas to date.

Swatches (from left): Darling Beige, Angelic Pink, Alluring Brown, Evil Pink, Sensual Red, Brilliant Gold (no flash)

Swatches (from left): Darling Beige, Angelic Pink, Alluring Brown, Evil Pink, Sensual Red, Brilliant Gold (with flash)

  • Darling Beige is a nude beige.
  • Angelic Pink is a light pink with blue (cool) undertones.
  • Alluring Brown is a rosy brown.
  • Evil Pink is a bright pink with yellow (warm) undertones.
  • Sensual Red is a brick red with gold sparkles.
  • Brilliant Gold is a sparkly gold glitter.  This is an artist shade, meant for mixing and layering.

These lipsticks are super soft for mattes.  Maybe a little too soft actually, as they have a tendency to crumble and pill up on the lips.  One way I found to remedy this is to blend the lipstick into my lips with a finger after applying from the tube.

The finish is a soft matte, which is very pretty and nothing like your grandma’s matte lipstick.  They are scent- and taste-free, and wear time is average for a lipstick (about 3-4 hours).  I don’t suffer from dry lips, and these didn’t suck out the moisture from my lips either.  They do, however, show off nasty flaky lips very well, so exfoliate first unless that’s the kind of look you’re going for. :P

I had a hard time pulling off Angelic Pink and Darling Beige because of their lightness, but pale beauties will love these.  The rest of the shades are universally flattering, and I’m actually surprised that I really liked Alluring Brown.

A Demure Pink For The Girly Girl: Dior Addict Lipstick in 578 Diorkiss.

I’m acquiring so many new lipsticks that I’m starting to feel like a “lipstick of the week” column is appropriate.  Whether I end up doing it or not (most likely not, because of my makeup ADD), this is a continuation of my mini Dior spree, Dior Addict Lipstick in 578 Diorkiss ($31).  I picked this up on a whim along with Dior Aurora Bronzer.

Dior Addict Lipstick in 578 Diorkiss

Dior Addict Lipstick in 578 Diorkiss is a sheer bright rosy pink.  It’s one of those colours that you can attach the adjectives “pretty” and “girly” to.  While I can usually be seen wearing anything far from demure shades,  I like this everyday pink colour.  It will probably be a popular one from the line, seeing as it is also same shade Kate Moss wore in the promo photo.

The Dior Addict formula like lip balm, so it’ll make a good starter lipstick for regular lip balm and lip gloss users.  It’s a good choice for those who suffer from dry lips, because the glossiness gives lips a nice plump look. :)  Deliciously juicy!

I understand that $31 is a lot of money for a sheer lipstick, but I do appreciate the packaging this comes in.  I’m not sure I’ll buy another one though.  I wish this came scented like my Chanel lipsticks, then it would feel much more luxurious and worth my money.

How Do You Feel About Sheer Glossy Lipsticks?

You know, I’m still not 100% convinced about them. Maybe I’ll appreciate them more when hot sticky summer finally comes around. I still prefer the full coverage of a lipstick layered with a gloss. What about you?  Do you like these multi-tasking lipsticks?

Because Bright Pink Lipsticks Don’t Have To Cost Your Entire Month’s Budget: Joe Fresh Matte Lipstick in Fuchsia.

I feel really bad when I feature high end lipsticks here because I know some of you are poor starving students who cannot afford them.  It wasn’t very long ago when I was in university myself, so I can totally relate.

Today’s post is especially for you.

This, my friends, is Joe Fresh Matte Lipstick in Fuchsia ($6).  You read right; only $6. :)

Joe Fresh Matte Lipstick in Fuchsia

Joe Fresh Matte Lipstick in Fuchsia is beautiful bright blue pink.  This lipstick builds to full intensity in two to three swipes.  The colour is obviously freakin’ fantastic, and even better, the matte formula is to die for!  It has the same melty consistency as a cream finish lipstick, but has a soft matte finish and lightweight feel like this other lipstick that is near and dear to my heart.

Naturally, I had to see how this colour compares to my two other bright pinks in my lipstick army.  shu uemura Rouge Unlimited in PK376 is a lot warmer, and darker.  YSL Rouge Pur Couture in Le Fuchsia is darker, and just a tad warmer than Joe Fresh Fuchsia.

And of course, the full face photo.

If you like your bright pink lipstick (I’m looking at you, Anjali and Michelle!), Joe Fresh Fuchsia would make a great addition to your collection.  This is as good as it gets for the price point. :)

Some Beauty Blogger Photography Tips from Yours Truly

Ever since I adopted the white background as per theNotice’s tips and tricks for beauty bloggers (which by the way, is a must-read!), I have a lot more things to consider when taking a good full face photo.  Currently the list is as follows:

  1. Daylight: you needz it.
  2. There should never be any lipstick smear on my teeth or cheeks.
  3. My face should not look fat.  Remember that 3/4 view is way more slimming than frontal view.
  4. If possible, crop the photo so that your face is off centre.
  5. When in doubt, blot.  Your forehead and nose has a tendency to be greasy.
  6. (NEW!) My hair shalt not be frizzy.  Have a bottle of MoroccanOil nearby.

So much work, eh? Any tips you would like to add?
