This is Hourglass Femme Rouge Velvet Crème Lipstick in Muse ($35, Sephora), a bright reddish coral. Copying my previous review, this cream finish lipstick is a bit on the dry side, but that also means that it lasts longer than the usual cream lipstick. It gives the lips a plump appearance by imparting a slight sheen on the lips. It is fully opaque in one pass. The lipstick is lightly scented and I find it quite pleasant.

Muse is the kind of shade that hits you in the face hard, and it hurts so good and you like it. ;) It’s very much a summer shade, but I’m not one to follow seasonal colour “rules” anyway. Muse is my sunny getaway in the dead of winter.

For those who worry about harmful ingredients in their cosmetics, Hourglass formulates the lipstick to contain no parabens, sulfates, synthetic dyes, or phthalates. If you fall in love with this lipstick, lipstick refill cartridges are available to buy as well. Look good and feel good, am I right? :)

The Shanghai Collection by Gucci Westman For Revlon Fall 2012 Reviews, Photos and Swatches

Some items from The Shanghai Collection by Gucci Westman For Revlon Fall 2012

Here we go again with another fall collection. :)  The Shanghai Collection by Gucci Westman for Revlon Fall 2012 is “inspired by the romantic films of China, where women adorn ultra-feminine wardrobes of vibrant cheongsam dresses with saturated colours.”

Revlon Cream Eye Shadow Palette in Midnight Express ($12.95) is a limited edition palette. It contains golden green, silver, black, bronzed gold, pearly white and sparkly purple cream eyeshadows. These sheer eyeshadows never set to a powder finish, which are problematic for people (like me!) who have oily eyelids. I suggest using a primer underneath, then layer on the cream eyeshadows, and then layer a matching powder eyeshadow on top. Those who like the “lived in” eyeshadow look or have never had problems with their eyeshadow creasing can wear these alone. For me this is too much work, so I’ll have to skip this one.

There are three new lipstick shades: Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Cherry BlossomRed Lacquer and Pink Pearl ($9.50). Cherry Blossom is an opaque mid-tone reddish pink. Red Lacquer is a sheer blood orange. Pink Pearl is a mid-tone brown pink with gold pearl.

MAC Lady Danger Lipstick: Sometimes It’s Good To Be Bad.

It happened again guys! Last Friday, I went to the MAC Pro store to look for new goodies to bring home.  ”I’m not going to buy a lipstick this time,” I said out loud.  Polish Fiend was there; she heard me.

It was all going according to plan, but then Lady Danger ($17.50) followed me home.  It really did.

MAC Lady Danger Lipstick

Lady Danger is a matte bright coral red.  It has just enough orange in it to make it modern and on trend this season.  This lipstick has been on my wish list for a really long time, and I’m glad it’s over.  This is the kind of lipstick you wear when you’re looking for trouble.  I’d wear this for a special occasion, or on days when I’m feeling extra sassy.  Do you have those days, too?  Careful though; this one’s a jaw dropper.  Want proof?  Exhibit A: my slack-jawed kitteh.

“Wow mommy!”

This is my first matte lipstick from MAC, and it’s a good one.  The colour goes on completely opaque with just a single swipe.  Within the first couple of hours, Lady Danger wears comfortably on my lips (similar to the Joe Fresh matte lipstick), but it does wear drier as the day goes on.  I suggest putting on a good lip balm in between touch ups to keep your lips in good shape.

A lipstick colour like this deserves to be the centre of attention, so keep everything else soft and subdued.  Here are some tips on how to pull off the look.

Here is a swatch of Lady Danger without lip liner (it doesn’t really need one as it doesn’t slide around on the lips).
