Sneak Peek: M·A·C alice + olivia So Rich So Pretty.

I am so excited to post our very first sneak peek here at Glitter Geek.

A relatively small collection, M·A·C alice + olivia will feature limited edition Dazzleglass Crèmes ($18 US / $21.50 CDN), Pigments ($19.50 US / $23.50 CDN), and Nail Lacquer ($12 US / $14.50 CDN). I know that this collection will set colour lovers’ hearts aflutter.

I was able to try out So Rich So Pretty Nail Lacquer, a bright reddish purple with pearl. It’s a fun colour but I feel like I’ve seen this colour before. This is the first nail polish I’ve ever tried from M·A·C, and overall my experience was good. There was some streakiness after one or two coats, so it took me three coats (or two thick coats) to achieve a fully opaque colour. It’s worth it though. I’m totally a purple nail polish kinda girl, and just look at that purple! It is very downtown girl chic.

M·A·C alice + olivia comes out on July 8, 2010 in stores only all over North America, and August 2010 in select locations internationally.

First Mani Pedi of the Season!

I don’t usually get mani pedis but my feet were in such bad shape — no, I won’t be showing before pictures — that I had to make an impulse trip to the nail salon today.

I Love Bright Nails!

I am embracing bright nails for as long as we have amazing weather. Gosh that turquoise is to. die. for! What are you wearing on your nails right now? Are you loving brights, or are you wearing more muted colours this season?

We always hear people complain about their own appearance. I am guilty of this, too. ”My pores are ginormous!” “My lashes are non-existent!” “My hairline is so weird!” Bonus points awarded if you know where that last one is from.

As I was getting my brows professionally done (for the first time ever!) today, I realized something: I really like my full eyebrows. Whenever I overtweeze, it all seems to grow back without a problem. I am so thankful that years of brow torture in high school didn’t ruin my brows for all eternity (whew!).

What Do You Like about Yourself?

Everybody has got to have at least one thing that they love about themselves. Let’s hear it in the comments ladies. Let’s start this weekend feeling good!

Oh! And at the risk of being a little raunchy, I also like my butt.

I Got My Nails Done…

…and the colour is beautiful. This is Zoya “Reece” nail polish. She’s quite sassy eh?

The thing that I don’t understand is why I always f* up my nails right after I get a manicure. My right hand is looking a little ghetto right now. Good thing you only need one hand for swatch pics, LOL!

Do you have any fun plans for the weekend? I am finally catching Avatar on IMAX today. Tickets are no longer selling out. Woohoo!

I’ll Take One in Eyeshadow, Please.

This is Zoya Nail Polish in Adina. She is a violet and green duo-chrome. I’m kind of in love. Wouldn’t this make an awesome eyeshadow? Do you know one that looks like this? If you do, you have to tell me! Click on for swatches from All Lacquered Up.

Confessions: Purchasing on a Makeup Ban.

So as my previous post stated, my No Makeup Buying Period is over early. I do think it helped me fend off a lot of temptation, making me re-think about whether I should purchase a product or not.

Because I’ve been a terrible promise keeper, I might as well tell you guys what I got! Yay!

MAC “All That Glitters” and MAC “Soft Brown” Eyeshadows. These two are great basics. I find that I’m getting more attracted to neutrals these days.
Ardell “Wispies” Strip Lashes. Gorgeous volume and length that doesn’t look drag queeny.
Ardell Duralash Naturals Individual Lashes. I’m still a little shaky with putting this on, so I need more practice. It looks stunning though once they are on correctly.
MAC Lipstick in “Patisserie”. My everyday creamy pink lipstick.
Sephora by OPI in “Worth My Weight”. Two words: glitter fiesta!
Revlon Colorstay Liquid Liner. I’m going to give liquid liner another go, since the previous ones I’ve tried are terrible. This one is very easy to use.
Smashbox WISH For The Perfect Pout Lipgloss Set. Six glosses: 2 full size and 4 “fun size” as I like to call them. I love them.

Savings for IMATS Toronto 2009

On a different note, the main reason for my No Makeup Buying Period was to save up for IMATS Toronto on November 22. And I have savings! So much that I might only be using half of it. We’ll see how much I get tempted.

Overall, I think the No Makeup Buying Period was a semi-success. I know I probably would have gotten so much more if I wasn’t thinking about it.

Cupcakes by Duhlicious

Recently I won the cupcake giveaway hosted by Ginger Won’t Snap. This meant I got to choose a theme for my dozen custom cupcakes! I finally decided on a Hawaiian beach theme and just love what Madalina from Duhlicious came up with. Aren’t they awesome?

My favourite of the bunch! I love the flowers on the lounge chair.

As for the flavours I chose Vanilla bean cake with a chocolate mousse filling, and a vanilla buttercream icing. Yummy and I-don’t-care calories.

My Purple Face of the Day

I’ve been on a purple kick lately so I tried my hand at a purple smoky eye. I used the loose shadow I got from Washington by Fly Girl cosmetics and came up with this:

For you makeup junkies, I used MAC Fix+ to apply the loose shadow wet. This really makes a difference. I’ve used a different medium before to apply this shadow and it did nothing.

Oh and yeah, my hair is back to black.

Continuing with the purple theme, my current manicure is Lippmann Collection Call Me Irresponsible. She costs $20 (!!!), but is pretty damn impressive. Five days in and my nails are still chip-free. <3
