Pin Up Look Inspired by Dita Von Teese.
Sep 6th
My poor MAC Dare You lipstick has been collecting dust in my vanity all throughout the warm summer months, so I decided to take her out to play for today’s look. I wasn’t exactly sure what I was going to do, but Jenn of Spiced Beauty suggested that I do a pin up look. I found this photo of Dita Von Teese that I thought would be perfect:

For the eyes, fill in your brows darker than you usually do (MAC Dark Devotion). Start with a matte base similar to your natural lid colour (UD Naked) all over the lid up to the brows. Take a shimmery cranberry (MAC Sweet Chestnut) into the crease and blend out. Smudge this colour on the lower lash line. Then using a pointed crease brush, deepen the crease with a matte black brown (MAC Dark Devotion). Again smudge on top of the cranberry on the lower lash line. Blend out the crease colours with a matte chocolate brown (MAC Spiced Chocolate). Blend above the crease colour with a medium brown (MAC Soft Brown) to soften. Highlight the inner lower lash line with a shimmery champagne (UD Sin).
Start lining the eyes by smudging the black brown on the top lash line and wing out, and trace on top with a black liquid liner (Revlon Colorstay Liquid Liner). Apply mascara to the top lashes (Marcelle Power Volume Mascara), and top off with big, big, BIG lashes (shu uemura Smoky Layers false lashes).
For the cheeks, apply a matte rose blush (Chanel Rose Temptation) to the hollows of the cheeks to contour.
For the lips, apply a dark red lipstick (MAC Dare You) to complete the look. I really should have used a lip liner for this lipstick in particular, since it tends to bleed. I had to fix the full face photos after the fact so the lips didn’t look so messy.

FOTD: Bright Fuchsia Lips and Thick Liner à la Gwen Stefani.
May 30th
Remember when I said last year that I couldn’t wear bright lips in public? Well, ladies, things have changed here at Glitter Geek. Not only am I posting a bright lips FOTD, but I am glad to say that I now wear fuchsia and red lips in public. Unfortunately I have nowhere to go today so only my cat is seeing me all gussied up.
Today’s look was inspired by Gwen Stefani’s makeup in InStyle magazine April 2010. Work it, Gwen!

For the eyes, fill in the brows. You don’t want wimpy brows with a very strong lip look. Using a fluffy crease brush (MAC 217), apply a warm matte medium brownall over the lid and past the crease. Next, take a dark matte brown and apply all over the lid. Blend. Using a smudger brush, apply the same dark brown to the outer crease, and outer two-thirds of the lower lash line. Using the liner brush of your choice (Sonia Kashuk bent liner brush), apply a thick line of black eyeliner on your upper lash line. Take your time, go over it a few times to get the right shape and deep colour. Finish off with lots and lots of mascara.
For the cheeks, contour with a matte bronzer on your temples and hollows of your cheeks. Add a coral blush to the apples of your cheeks.
For the lips, line and fill in with a cherry red lipliner. Top off with a bright fuchsia lipgloss.
Look I’m Loving: Marcelle Instinct Summer 2010.

This look is so hot that I might cry!

Here’s a tutorial from the Marcelle website:
And no, Marcelle didn’t ask me to post this. I saw it in Shoppers Drugmart and was absolutely floored by the promotional photo.
MAC Hello Kitty Inspired FOTD.
Apr 25th
Whenever I see a look I like, I save it in the “Makeup” folder on my computer for future reference. Back then, I wasn’t doing FOTDs for the blog, but now I feel more confident in my makeup application skills that you all get to see what sort of looks I dig!
This FOTD is inspired by the Hello Kitty Wild: Stylin’ face chart that was released by MAC in the Hello Kitty Collection last Spring. I never do my eyes this way so it was fun to try something new. I thought the result wasn’t too shabby, no?

The key to this look is a good pointed crease blending brush; my favourite to use is MAC #226 (LE). You don’t have to use this brush, but it will be easier to do the look with a pointed crease brush similar to this.

For the eyes: taking a bright violet (Auraline bright violet), use the tip of the crease brush to trace out a wing shape on the outer corner, and a rounded shape on the inner corner. Fill in the shape you drew out, and blend out slightly. Don’t over blend! Next, take a golden shimmery pink (MAC Expensive Pink) to fill in the rest of the lid space. Using a clean flat eyeshadow brush, drag and blend the violet into the pink. To make the eyes pop even more, draw a shimmery white gold (LIFT Cosmetics Moon Dust) line down the middle of the lid. Blend it in to the pink. Line the lower lash line with a violet eyeliner (GOSH Funky Violet). Smudge bright violet on top for more colour intensity and smokiness. Wing out the top lash line with black eyeliner, then line the waterlines as well. Blend a warm brown (MAC Soft Brown) above the lid colours to warm up the brow bone. Add mascara and lashes!
For the cheeks: apply a low shimmer peach (MAC Peaches + MAC Arena) on the apples. Use bronzer (Lise Watier Havana) to contour the cheekbones.
For the lips: dab a peach or orange lipstick (Marcelle Flame) lightly all over the lips. Top with a sheer shimmery gloss (Smashbox Luster).

Why are my bangs so tragic? Cowlick overload!
