Karl Lagerfeld for shu uemura Holiday Collection: eye & cheek palette Reviews, Photos, Swatches

Here’s a quickie review and swatch post to round out the Karl Lagerfeld for shu uemura Holiday Collection. The collection has two eye & cheek palettes in smoky velvet and prestigious bordeaux ($85 each), and you probably want to run to Holt Renfrew to get these now.

smoky velvet is a mostly cool-toned palette that contains black with silver glitter, multi-dimensional pearly glitter, yellow gold glitter, green eyeshadow with golden shimmer, mint green eyeshadow and a cool rose blush.

prestigious bordeaux is a warm-toned palette that contains shimmery violet eyeshadow, light plum eyeshadow, golden orange glitter, metallic copper eyeshadow, a rosy brown eyeshadow with sheen and a warm rose blush with gold shimmer.

As expected, both eye & cheek palettes have fantastic formulas; the eyeshadows and glitters are smooth. The eyeshadows are so soft that they feel like cream eyeshadows to the touch. I think prestigious bordeaux is a beautifully coordinated palette and will be the more popular one of the two. smoky velvet is a more unusual combination (with 3 glitters!) but I like the multi-dimensional white glitter in it.

Karl Lagerfeld for shu uemura Holiday Collection: nail color & special nail stickers Reviews, Photos, Swatches

Karl Lagerfeld for shu uemura collection includes three nail colors ($20 each), and each comes with a strip of nail stickers. These nail polishes in glittery black, beige and red tie in well with mon shu’s colouring. Wanna hear about them? Then let’s start right meow!

nail colors in karl black, royal beige, shu shu red

karl black is a black base with fine olive gold and silver glitter. I like how this one applied; it was smooth and had no issues with streakiness. I’m showing it below in two coats. The finish is not super shiny so I’d still wear a shiny topcoat with this, personally. It just feels a little bit gritty to the touch because of the fine glitter.

royal beige is a midtone beige with very subtle gold shimmer that is barely detectable on the nails. On me, it is the perfect beige nude nail colour. However, the formula is awful; it is really thick and hard to apply evenly. The swatch below is after two coats.

shu shu red is a creamy tomato red. This is a classic, easy to wear shade. I liked this one a lot despite my poor application on my left hand. I am left handed, okay? :P This applied well, needing only two coats for full opacity.

The mon shu nail stickers come with each bottle of nail color in this collection, and sure they are fun. These do however, cost a couple of dollars more because of the stickers. What do I think? I don’t really care for them. I found the stickers to be too narrow and too long for my short and stout nail beds. I am not really a “nart” kinda girl anyway. I found these to be very sticky, so make sure that your nails are fully dry before applying them.

Of the three, karl black and shu shu red are great and I’d recommend them in a heartbeat. They are a great inexpensive way to get your hands on this highly anticipated holiday collection. :)

Karl Lagerfeld for shu uemura Holiday Collection: blackish satin purple painting liner Review, Photos, Swatches

Onwards with Karl Lagerfeld for shu uemura week!

painting liner in blackish satin purple

The collection has a special edition painting liner in blackish satin purple ($29). It is a violet with golden shimmer. This gel eyeliner is creamy like my favourite MAC Fluidline. The shade itself needs two to three passes to get fully opaque with an eyeliner brush, but to me this works better as a budge-proof cream eyeshadow. Because it is creamy when you put it on, you have about a minute of playtime to blend it as an eyeshadow base. Any longer than that and you are SOL; this liner isn’t going anywhere, baby!

This stuff holds on to skin like its life depends on it. The swatches below stained my arms after my attempt to remove with micellar water. I was only successful at removing it with my shu uemura cleansing oil.

I love to wear purple liner as an alternative to black (case in point: Marcelle’s liner in Amethyst) because it works great for all eye colours. Having it in a gel liner/cream shadow format makes it a must-have for me.
