Just Arrived In Canada: Katy Perry by Eylure Lashes

Katy Perry by Eylure Lashes

Katy Perry is a girl after my own heart. She’s a self-proclaimed cat lady and she loves makeup. One thing Katy is known for are her big, bold lashes, and so it’s natural that she teamed up with Eylure to create custom lashes with varying degrees of fiiyyyreworks… I mean, drama.

Katy Perry by Eylure Lashes ($7.99 at Shoppers Drug Mart, Jean Coutu, London Drugs and Ebeauty.ca) come in four styles: Sweetie Pie, Oh, Honey!, Cool Kitty, and Oh, My!. Each pair contains a mini eyelash glue, an instruction and care sheet and a sticker with the name of the lashes. The glue works surprisingly well, but it comes with a wand applicator that is a bit cumbersome. I would’ve liked to see a squeeze tube version instead. The width of the lash bands are shorter than I am used to. I didn’t have to trim these bands at all to fit my eyes. That said I think these are great for those with small eyes, but I don’t know if it will work for those who require a wider lash band.

Katy Perry by Eylure False Lashes in Sweetie Pie: “A dainty, natural hair lash that will discreetly add length and volume to your own lashes.” Short and sweet: these are SO short, you guys. You can barely tell I’m wearing them here. It’s a good pair for faux lash beginners and for my Asian girls with short, sparse lashes.

Katy Perry by Eylure False Lashes in Oh, Honey!: “A flatteringly full lash, textured for a natural finish but with enough volume to take your lashes from fine to fab.” Oh, Honey! is wispy and totally flirty. This is a beautiful pair for brides for gorgeous eyes that pop, without looking over the top. Ooh hey, I am a rhyming, hooray! :)

Embrace the Cray: Face of the Day with shu uemura Chocolat-Donna Collection

Dude. I have feathers on my lashes. These are absolutely the craziest lashes I’ve ever worn (the tutus from last year — also from shu uemura — are a close second). I thought it might be fun to do a look using the shu uemura Chocolat-Donna collection (reviews, photos and swatches here). This is a great collection if you like to play with makeup. I love how the Orange & Pistachio palette can bring beautiful dimension to the eyes.

Swatches: Orange & Pistachio Palette — shades #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, #6

Get the Look

For the eyes, apply #4 all over the lid just past the crease. Apply #5 with a crease brush in the crease, extending the colour out towards the tip of your eyebrows. Blend well. Apply #5 along the lower lash line. Deepen the outer corner of the lid with #6, and blend into #5. Next, prime the lid and lower lash line with a sticky glitter primer (LA Splash Eyeshadow Sealer/Base). Apply the #1 glitter all over the lid avoiding the crease and outer V. With a liner brush, pick up more #1 and apply along the lower lash line. Highlight the brow bone with #1. Make the inner corners pop with shade #2.

Line the top and bottom waterlines with black eyeliner (Giorgio Armani Waterproof liner #1), apply mascara to top and bottom lashes. Then apply Choco-lash false eyelashes.

For the cheeks, apply Apricot Glow On blush on the cheekbones.

For the lips, mix an orange and nude beige (MAC Mattene lipsticks in Fashion Nomad and Delectable). Then top with a peach gloss (Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss in Life’s a Peach).

shu uemura Chocolat-Donna Collection Reviews, Photos, Swatches

Some items from shu uemura Chocolat-Donna Collection

I’m really surprised that shu uemura Chocolat-Donna Collection is the first chocolate-inspired makeup collection I’ve come across. As a whole I think all this collection is very well executed; the gorgeous shades and stellar formulas make this collection a winner in my books.

The Choco-lash False Eyelashes ($32) are hilarious. If somebody groomed a brown kitty and refashioned the furs into half lash strips, these false lashes are exactly what you’d get. This pair calls for a full-on cray cray look (challenge accepted!).

The Nail Colors in Dark Chocolate and Icing Glitter ($20 each) suit their names perfectly. Dark Chocolate is a creme finish dark, slightly cool brown. It is thicker and more gloopy than other cremes I’ve tried. Icing Glitter contains gold and silver glitter, and is great for layering. You can really appreciate the combination under direct sunlight.

I’ve forgotten all about this amazing blush formula (see another shade and review here). Glow On in Framboisier and Apricot ($21.50) both get top marks in pigmentation, finish and application. These berry pink and pale orange shades illuminate the cheeks with a beautiful glow and blend in seamlessly. These two are great basic shades to have in your personal makeup collection. The blushes can fit into the eyeshadow palettes below; they are 3 eyeshadows wide.

shu uemura Eye Shadow Palette in Mint & Vanilla ($85) contains sparkling gold, sparkling mint green, matte light mint green, pearl dark beige, matte light earth brown and creamy dark brown. The darkest shade is identically to the one in the Orange & Pistachio palette. The gold design is an overspray and goes away after one use. To me this palette suits a pale, cool skin tone. Those who look great in pastels will probably like this palette. Two glitter shades might be a bit overkill, though. The four neutral shades make a great everyday eyeshadows. Absolutely no issues with the regular eyeshadows, but the glitters tend to go all over the place without a proper sticky base. Try a cream eyeshadow or a tacky glitter primer to keep them on your eyes and not on your cheeks.

shu uemura Eyeshadow Palette in Orange & Pistachio ($85) contains sparkling copper, pearl pistachio green, pearl cream beige, pearl light reddish plum, matte earth brown and creamy dark brown. The darkest shade is identically to the one in the Mint & Vanilla palette.  The gold design is an overspray and goes away after one use. This is my favourite palette of the two. The orange glitter shade is wicked and multi-dimensional; purple and green flecks make it such an interesting shade. The shades are perfectly pigmented and easy to work with, but make sure to layer the glitter over a cream or tacky primer to avoid fallout. Again, the four neutral shades are great for everyday use. You need this.

As for my picks from the collection, you can’t go wrong with any (or all) of the eye shadow palettes and Glow On blushes. I am really impressed with these products, and because the eye palettes are refillable, you are free to pop in a blush to replace 3 eyeshadows.  Wouldn’t that be great to take in your bag for touch-ups? :)
