MAC Hello Kitty Stately Black FOTD: Smoky Eyes with a Fresh Twist.

I mentioned in my last look that my makeup is rather uninspired at the moment.  Well ladies, I am back!  Yesterday, I downloaded so many face charts from MAC’s previous collections that I wish I could paint all of them on my face at once.  I recreated another MAC Hello Kitty face chart (in case you missed it, here was the first), called Stately Black.  I personally liked how this looks in person.  It was a smoky eye with a fresh twist.  I never thought I could wear punchy pink lips with a smoky eye, but obviously this has proven me wrong! :)  Also, please forgive my weird choice for brow highlight.  The sun was in hiding today, and well, it was kinda hard to judge the colours on my skin. :|  So, let’s get to it!

For the eyes, apply a sparkly dark grey (UD Creep) using a fluffy shader brush all over the lid stopping short of the crease.  Blend out well using a fluffy blending brush (MAC 217).  Smudge a matte black eyeshadow (MAC Carbon) to the upper lash line.  Clean off your smudger brush, then take the dark grey again and lightly apply to the lower lash line.  Highlight the brow with a matte light beige (UD Naked).  Line the lower waterline with a sparkly turquoise (MAC Undercurrent Pearlglide) for an unexpected punch of colour.  Curl your lashes, and apply volumizing mascara (Marcelle Power Volume Mascara) to the top and bottom lashes.

For the cheeks, buff a low shimmer warm pink (MAC Dainty Mineralize Blush) to the apples of the cheeks.

For the lips, go with a medium pink (Revlon Carnation Colorburst Lipstick) and top with a sparkly sheer gloss (Chanel Maline Glossimer).

Pin Up Look Inspired by Dita Von Teese.

My poor MAC Dare You lipstick has been collecting dust in my vanity all throughout the warm summer months, so I decided to take her out to play for today’s look.  I wasn’t exactly sure what I was going to do, but Jenn of Spiced Beauty suggested that I do a pin up look.  I found this photo of Dita Von Teese that I thought would be perfect:

For the eyes, fill in your brows darker than you usually do (MAC Dark Devotion).  Start with a matte base similar to your natural lid colour (UD Naked) all over the lid up to the brows.  Take a shimmery cranberry (MAC Sweet Chestnut) into the crease and blend out.  Smudge this colour on the lower lash line.  Then using a pointed crease brush, deepen the crease with a matte black brown (MAC Dark Devotion).  Again smudge on top of the cranberry on the lower lash line.  Blend out the crease colours with a matte chocolate brown (MAC Spiced Chocolate).  Blend above the crease colour with a medium brown (MAC Soft Brown) to soften.  Highlight the inner lower lash line with a shimmery champagne (UD Sin).

Start lining the eyes by smudging the black brown on the top lash line and wing out, and trace on top with a black liquid liner (Revlon Colorstay Liquid Liner).  Apply mascara to the top lashes (Marcelle Power Volume Mascara), and top off with big, big, BIG lashes (shu uemura Smoky Layers false lashes).

For the cheeks, apply a matte rose blush (Chanel Rose Temptation) to the hollows of the cheeks to contour.

For the lips, apply a dark red lipstick (MAC Dare You) to complete the look.  I really should have used a lip liner for this lipstick in particular, since it tends to bleed.  I had to fix the full face photos after the fact so the lips didn’t look so messy.

M·A·C alice + olivia Inspired: Turquoise and Purple FOTD.

It’s been a long time since my last look.  I actually haven’t been wearing that much funky looks these days, so this look is a nice way to change it up.  I find that wearing brights really boosts my mood!  This was inspired by the colours from the alice + olivia collection that’s coming out soon. :)  Oh, and for all our Canadian readers: Happy Canada Day !

Swatches (from left): LIFT Cosmetics Moon Dust, L’Oreal HIP Eyeshadow in Showy, MAC Coquette, MAC Carbon, Auraline Bright Violet

Get the Look

For the eyes, start by applying a light shimmery gold (LIFT Moon Dust Pigment) all over the inner third of the lid, as well as inner third of the lower lash line. Apply a bright shimmery turquoise (L’Oreal Showy) on the remaining two thirds of the lid. Take a clean brush and blend the two colours together by dragging back and forth.  Then take a warm taupe (MAC Coquette) in the crease to add depth.  Deepen the outer V with a matte black (MAC Carbon).  Now apply a bright matte purple (Auraline Bright Violet) right above the black and blend gently.  Mix the black and purple and apply into the outer 2 thirds of the lower lash line.  Line the waterline with a black pencil (Annabelle Ohmygoth! Smudgeliner), and line the upper lash line with liquid eyeliner (Revlon Colorstay Liquid Liner).  Apply two coats of mascara (L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black Waterproof).

For the cheeks, buff a light warm pink (MAC Dainty Mineralized Blush) all over the apples of the cheeks, and dust a little bit on the nose and chin.

For the lips, apply a shimmery peach lipgloss (FACE atelier Peach Lip Glaze).
