My Recent No-Fail Summer Look.

Hi everyone! I’m blogging from Washington state, where we are visiting family. Today I wanted to take some time and talk about my makeup routine these days, and the products I use.

Summer’s all about the fresh, glowy skin; never heavy or overdone. This has been my routine lately. Super low maintenance look, which is a big deal for someone who likes dolling it up. I’m really enjoying the low key look though.

Super Natural…

  1. On a clean face, start with sunscreen all over your face and neck. I use Neutrogena Ultra Sheer® Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF 100+ with Helioplex for maximum protection. If you can’t reapply sunscreen on your face during the day, you might as well go as high an SPF as you can to stay protected longer.
  2. Once that’s dry, I conceal any unevenness or redness with COVER FX Total Coverage Cream Foundation SPF 30 with a concealer brush. Blend away with a stiff foundation brush.
  3. Set your makeup with powder. My favourite right now is MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural for a natural finish.
  4. For a pop of colour, I apply a peach blush like MAC Style on the apples of my cheeks.
  5. To really make your makeup last with a natural glow, finish with MAC Fix+ (I use Fix+ Rose, Limited Edition) on a stippling brush and stipple on to the face.
  6. Quickly fill your brows, curl your lashes, and swipe on some lipgloss!

This whole process shouldn’t really take more than 5 minutes.

Have More Time?

  • Eyes: I am loving coppery-golden eyeshadow all over the lid, with grey liner smudged on the top and bottom lash lines. Finish off the eyes with your favourite mascara.
  • Lips: Go bold and go orange! Lipstick will give you the most impact, but for those who are colour shy, use an orangey lip gloss instead.

I’ll post some face pictures some other time, but I hope you stay protected from the sun, have fun, and stay pretty!

Beauty Hauls: I love Shoppers Optimum Points.

I got to spend $100 worth of Shoppers Optimum points this weekend, and lookie what I got!

For the curious, in the photo above are the following:

  • Benefit Posie Tint. This gives me the best pink flush ever. I was debating between this and Stila Convertible Color, but they had a Benefit counter at the drugstore, so I thought why not. This has become an instant favourite!
  • Make Up For Ever Eye Shadow No 17. I originally bought Benefit Dallas as a contour, but when I got home I was so horrified because my face looked so red. It was a bad shade on me. I brought back the untouched box, and the makeup artist helped me to find the right brown colour for contouring. I ended up with an eye shadow, since we couldn’t find any blush or powder in the right shade. And oh my god, when did Shoppers start carrying MUFE?
  • Smashbox Jet Set Waterproof Eyeliner in Dark Brown. I got a pretty brown shade for polished natural days.
  • CoverGirl VolumeExact Waterproof Mascara in Very Black. This is the second mascara I tried recently by CoverGirl that I loved (the other is LashBlast).
  • Neutrogena Wave. Exfoliate exfoliate exfoliate! I’m starting to get into skin care and I’ve heard lots of good things.
  • John Frieda Weather Works Style Sealant Creme. I got a sample of this and loved it. So I bought a full-sized version.

The best part? I only paid $30.48.

Bacne Be Gone!

I’m gonna be totally honest here. I have back acne. It’s annoying, itchy, and needless to say, embarrassing. It started around the time when I bought myself a workout bra. I think its fabric is not breathable.

I tried exfoliating, but all to no avail. Then I came across Karen’s post on Makeup and Beauty Blog on Neutrogena Body Clear Body Wash. I gave it a try hoping that it will work for me too.

The body wash sells for around CAD$10. I use it with a shower puff to scrub my back. I am actually surprised that it lathers up really well. The scent is light and pleasant. After months of usage, my back is clear from any more breakouts. Before I would have to deal with 4 or 5 pimples at a time… it was not a pretty sight. Every now and then I will still have a pimple emerge out of nowhere, but my body wash dries it out within a couple of days.

Dear Neutrogena,
Thanks for literally watching my back.
Love, Arianne

Now I don’t have bacne problems! Yay! My only problem is the pigmentation spots that my bacne left on my back. Anyone have ideas on how to get rid of them?
