Beauty Is Pain: Marcelle Lux Eye Dust Review and Swatches.

Marcelle Lux Eye Dust ($11.95) loose pigments are gorgeous; there’s no doubt about that. However, opening the packaging of these delicious morsels of eyeshadows reminds me of the lyrics to a Bon Jovi song:

Love hurts, love scars, love wounds, and harms
Any heart not tough or strong enough
To take a lot of pain, take a lot of pain
Love is like a cloud, holds a lot of rain
Love hurts, ooh love hurts.

Dear Marcelle Lux Eye Dust: Y U no easy to open?

A lot of “ow!” and split thumbnails later, I finally managed to open all of these suckers.  They come in a flip top lid, which makes them less messy than the regular sifter packaging, but man oh man are they a pain in the ass!

Now that it’s off my chest, let’s all hold gather around, hold hands and admire the beauties.  I swatched these dry without a base, and you can already see how incredibly smooth and pigmented they are.

Marcele Lux Eye Dust in Illusion, Vegas, Bronze Millionaire

Marcele Lux Eye Dust in Mermaid, Element, Supersonic, High Voltage

Illusion, Mermaid and Supersonic have a slight pearl finish.  Vegas, Bronze Millionaire, Element and High Voltage (my favourite!) are full-on metallic shades that are perfect for holiday party season.  It also comes in Ocean (teal), Go-Violet (violet) and Fantasia (fuchsia), which you can win in my giveaway (ends at midnight)!  All of them are paraben-, oil- and talc-free.

Who’s in the mood for creative loose pigment photos?  Just try to look at them and tell me you’re not making grabby hand gestures at your computer screen. :)

Annabelle and Marcelle Beauty Premiere Party Rocks Toronto!

Last week, I went to the much anticipated Beauty Premiere party being hosted by two of my favourite Canadian brands: Annabelle and Marcelle.  The party was held at the uber swanky Thompson Hotel Rooftop.  Check out the view!

The view from the Thompson Hotel rooftop

The venue was packed!  Of course, almost everyone from the Toronto Beauty Bloggers community came out to mingle. :)  I got a little carried away chatting that I didn’t get to snap too many photos, but I have enough to share with you.

Beauty Premiere introduced several exciting new products from the brands.  They had booths set up and a member of their team talked to us about the innovations and benefits of each product.  The makeup and skincare products below will be available by Spring 2012.

Marcelle Renforcils Waterproof Eye Make-up Remover

Marcelle Renforcils Waterproof Eye Make-up Remover is a gel make-up remover with micellar water.  Think about it like this: it’s our beloved Marcelle Essentials Purity Soothing Cleansing Water in gel form.  Not only will it pack the same make-up removing power, but it also contains ingredients that fortify your eyelashes to prevent fallout.  Great idea, no?

Marcelle Xtension Plus Mascara

Marcelle is coming out with a new mascara called Xtension Plus.  It promises to provide extra length and curl.  Apparently it’ll be as good — if not better — than the Power Volume mascara in terms of curling power, so I am very excited about this one!  I received it in my swag bag so I’ll definitely review it after I’ve played with it for a while.

Marcelle BB Cream

Pardon the awful picture quality — the lighting conditions were clearly not something my Canon G11 can handle.  Anyway, what’s big and cool in Asia is now slowly coming to Canada.  What am I talking about?  The super popular BB Cream is supposed to provide a lot of good-for-your-skin ingredients while offering a little bit of coverage to even out your skintone.  Available in two shades: Light-to-Medium and Medium-to-Dark.

Marcelle Gene Youth Skincare

A trio of day cream, night cream and eye cream, they are also coming out with Marcelle Gene Youth Skincare. Unfortunately I don’t have anything to say about these guys because it got too loud in the party and I couldn’t hear anything! Sorry. :S

Annabelle Smudge Paints

The Annabelle Smudge Paints aren’t new, but because they are awesome, they deserve to be shown off in the party.  These are gel liners or cream eyeshadow bases, and they have great staying power.

Annabelle Glitterama Liquid Eyeliner

Eight new colours of Annabelle Glitterama Liquid Eyeliners are coming out as well.

I had a great chat with the lady at the Glitterama booth, but I didn’t get her name!  I was telling her the fact that I try both high- and low-end brands for my blog, and many times I’ve been impressed with how well Annabelle and Marcelle products stack up against the expensive brands.  She told me that they know that, and their marketing team knows that.  I wish more people knew, though.  Every time I recommend the brands to someone who’s not into beauty, they said they haven’t even tried anything from these brands.  But slowly but surely, I think we beauty bloggers are getting that word out! :)

Annabelle Big Show Lipglosses

The Annabelle Big Show Lipglosses are sheer, high-shine, unscented, non-sticky lipglosses.  They feel really nice and moisturizing on the lips.  Oh and, we even had the opportunity to create our own shade. :) !!!

Annabelle Big Show Lipgloss Mixing Station

My favourite guy that night — Mr. Lipgloss Scientist Dude, who by the way, gave me some photography tips as well.

O hai.  This is my lipgloss.  I don’t know what to call it yet, but for some reason “Seduction” keeps popping up.  Haha.

Makeup platter

There were servers who were walking around with hors d’oeuvres, and others who were walking around with platters of makeup.  Yes, eyeshadows, eyeliners, and other makeup free for all!  I’m pretty sure I saw this scene before in my sweet sweet dreams.

Want To Try A Darker Lip This Season? Check Out These Four Lip Colours I’ve Fallen For This Uh, Autumn.

Ah, the season of the polished, darker lips is finally upon us.  Fall is all about drama.  After wearing the neon pinks and oranges all summer, I have missed my dramatic reds, berries and plums.  Here are four colour options that I have been wearing and loving lately.

From top to bottom: Maybelline 830 Plum Shine, Vasanti Denmark, FACE atelier Prim Rose, Maybelline Cranberry Crave

Maybelline 830 Plum Shine Color Sensational High Shine Lipstick *

I first saw Maybelline 830 Plum Shine Color Sensational High Shine Lipstick ($9.99) on Michelle of Lipstick Rules.  She raved about the lipstick, and of course, I had to have it.  At this price, I’d definitely pick up a few more.  Plum Shine is a plum-berry with a glossy, frosty finish.  I usually stay away from frosty lipsticks, but this one is done just right; I don’t feel tacky old lady with this lipstick on. :P  The glossy finish makes it a great option for lipgloss girls who want to try lipstick for the first time.

Vasanti Denmark Ultra Luxe Lipstick

It comes as no surprise to me that Vasanti Denmark Ultra Luxe Lipstick ($15) is one of Vasanti’s best-selling lipstick shades.  I mean, really, this is a “look at me” kinda shade.  So own it. :)  Denmark is an opaque berry magenta.  Because of its creamy formula, I pair it with Annabelle Burgundy Lipliner so it doesn’t migrate outside my lip line.  The shade wears a long time, stains the lips, and has Vasanti’s signature guava scent.  I think it might be a good dupe for MAC Rebel Lipstick.

FACE atelier Prim Rose Lip Glaze

I wrote about it before, and I still think that FACE atelier’s Lip Glaze is one of the best lipgloss formulas out on the market. I picked up FACE atelier Prim Rose Lip Glaze ($22) at IMATS last year and I’m so glad I did.  Primrose is a beautiful plummy rose lipgloss.  It is opaque, non-sticky and unscented.  I like this one because it’s a “my lips but vampier” kinda colour.  It’s certainly darker than my natural lip colour, but it is still a swipe-and-go kind of shade.  Don’t let the higher price fool you.  The tube is huge; it contains 0.5 oz of product, whereas MAC Lipglass has 0.17 oz.  That’s almost 3x the product!  This one is so worth the price.

Maybelline 85 Cranberry Crave Shine Sensational Lipgloss *

If you like your lip gloss on the sheer side, I like Maybelline 85 Cranberry Crave Shine Sensational Lipgloss ($6.99).  This one has a sweet taste, though, but it’s not totally awful.  It is super glossy and low on the shimmer.  This is a great pick for those who don’t usually go bold on the lips.  It’s perfect to layer on top of the Plum Shine lipstick.
