Sneak Peek: LUSH Emotional Brilliance Collection

Written by Michelle Buček

Have you heard?  LUSH is coming out with a colour cosmetics line!  My friend Michelle was at LUSH Queen Street, Toronto last week for a sneak peek of the new launch.  This collection is going to be a hit!

Last week I had the chance to preview LUSH’s newest line Emotional Brilliance, a makeup line (consisting of 30 vegan products) that shows off your current state of mind. The range includes dynamic-coloured liquid lipsticks, liquid eyeliners, and cream eyeshadows that are designed to give the user the freedom to wear make-up that shapes your mood rather than feeling stuck wearing make-up that’s in-season or on-trend.

Do you think that if you believe enough in something, you will have a change of behaviour?

LUSH Liquid Lipsticks in Glamorous and Power, and Liquid Eyeliner in Healthy

The lovely ladies at LUSH whisked me off into a dark, secluded room where the focal point was a wheel adorned with 30 beautiful colours. They gently spun the wheel and instructed that I select three colours that stood out to me in that moment. The order chosen is very important as the first colour symbolizes your strength or weakness, the second colour represents your subconscious need, and the third is your talent and it is what you require to achieve your subconscious need. Each colour corresponds to a specific word. In order I chose Liquid Lipsticks in Glamorous and Power and Liquid Eyeliner in Healthy. Apparently my healthy attitude or perhaps healthy body will help me gain the power that I am lacking in my life. I have yet to decide if glamorous is a strength or weakness in my life.

It all felt a bit gimmicky to me, but it was a fun experience nonetheless and I salute LUSH for striving to do something different. After assessing my colour choices, I decided I would only wear one out of the three colours I chose, as two of them did not suit my skin tone or style. But, have no fear, because I was told by a LUSH sales associate that the power of the colour would still shine through and shape my mood even if I just wore it is a dot on my wrist. I am sorry LUSH, but the price is a little steep to buy a liquid eyeliner to be worn on places other than my eyes.

I bet you are wondering what exactly ‘glamorous’, ‘power’ and ‘healthy’ look like in colour form.

Without further ado…

I was thoroughly impressed with the quality of the liquid lipsticks. They are intensely skin softening and carry pigment very well. The colour is vibrant and evenly distributed after just one application. This patent pending formula uses LUSH’s super softening Ultrabalm as a base, which is a simple blend of organic jojoba oil, candelilla wax and rose wax.

To accompany the Emotional Brilliance range are a suite of other new products, including two new skin tints, a black mascara, and a translucent powder.

I have really taken a liking to Skin Tint in Charisma, a golden skin tint perfect for achieving that healthy, warm glow this summer. LUSH uses a softening and calming base of simmered oats, almond and jojoba oils, cocoa butter and orange flower water. Charisma blends in beautifully and won’t make your face feel oily. I also love how it works to tone and nourish the skin making it feel soft and refreshed throughout the whole day. Without a doubt, this is going to be my go-to bronzer this summer.

In true LUSH fashion the packaging is designed to have as little impact on the planet as possible. The colours all come in clear glass bottles because glass is one of the easiest materials to recycle globally. LUSH designed the caps for the glass bottles and manufacture them near their headquarters in Poole, Dorset using recycled materials from their black pots. Brilliant and innovative!

The Emotional Brilliance collection launches July 21st 2012 in all LUSH stores worldwide and online at lush.ca. The products are priced between $18.95 and $22.95.

What do you think? Will you go check it out?

Michelle is a bath and body product junkie, who has admitted to having a shrine full of The Body Shop and LUSH goodies in her bathroom.  She is also an avid runner and has killer legs to show for it.  (No, I’m not jealous!  Okay, maybe a little.)

[Editor's Note: I am so lucky that the folks at LUSH also gave me a chance to try out a few items from this collection, so watch out for my swatches later on. :) For now, I snapped a quick photo for Twitter the other day.]

Kiss Stress Goodbye Now with Yummy Skin, LUSH and LAVANILA.

Everybody has to deal with the s-word every once in a while (or for some, all the time). It totally sucks, but you know, it’s a pretty good excuse to go soak in the tub for a de-stressing “me” session.

Yummy Skin Bye Bye Stress Aroma Oasis Body Soak

Yummy Skin Bye Bye Stress Aroma Oasis Body Soak

Enriched with essential oils, Calendula and Blue Malva flower petals, Yummy Skin Bye Bye Stress Aroma Oasis Body Soak ($16) turns your bath water into a luxurious little piece of heaven. Two capfuls of the body soak instantly fills the bathroom with the citrus scent of the grapefruit oil. After soaking in this for 20 minutes, I went off to la-la-land of unicorns, kittens, and double rainbows. Translation: my skin was soft and moisturized, my head was cleared of all things stressful. I’d love it even more if paired with a bubbly bath though. The body soak is available at the Yummy Skin website.

Speaking of bubbles…

LUSH French Kiss Bubble Bar

For a really bubbly bath, I enjoy the bubble bars from LUSH. What’s a relaxing bath without a little (or in this case, a lot of) lavender? French Kiss Bubble Bar ($8.95) actually contains a sprig of lavender — a scent that I just can’t get enough of recently. The LUSH website says it is shaped like a chocolate kiss, but honestly it looks more along the lines of poo when I first saw it! :)  It contains thyme, lavender and rosemary essential oils to give you a bath that is hard not to snooze / snore in.

Eau de Parfum, Rollerball Perfume, and Healthy Body Butter from LAVANILA Vanilla Lavender line

While I’m talking about my recent lavender madness, I was just at Sephora and was having one of those moments while perusing the Vanilla Lavender line by LAVANILA. You know the kind — the “I want to roll around in this nao!” moments. I tried the Eau de Parfum ($45), Healthy Body Butter ($33) and Rollerball Perfume ($25) and want. them. all.

After trying all these products, I hope you’ll also find yourself in a world of double rainbows and kittens and calorie-free ice cream. :)

What are Your Favourite Products for a Serious De-Stress Session?

Besides makeup, bath and body products are such a weakness for me.  What are your favourites?

Glitter Geek Holiday Gift Guide: Bath and Body Edition.

Ah, the Holidays! Doesn’t the idea get you all warm and fuzzy? But you know what’ll make it even sweeter? Getting your Holiday shopping done early.

Glitter Geek has you covered this Holiday with a beauty gift guide that you’ll want to email out to your family and friends.  Don’t worry, it’s cool.  We encourage this kind of behaviour. :P

First up are bath and body treats. Bubbly baths and warm showers are just what the doctor ordered for the cold winter nights we are sure to get.  If you’re not a winter person, make it your excuse to wind down with lots of long baths. :)

Pure + simple Winter-proof Body Kit, $49.95 ($71.85 Value)

If you suffer from itchy skin during the colder months and nothing else works to calm it, then this is the solution to your problem.  It contains the new Creamy Citrus Body Cleanser 200 ml, a Organic Citrus Body Oil 200 ml, and Intensive Moisture Body Lotion 200 ml.  I’ve been using the Creamy Citrus Body Cleanser on my dry itchy legs, and honestly, they are back to normal after only 5 days of use (!!!).  I love invigorating citrus scents on my morning showers, so this one is right up my alley.  I am already a big fan of Pure + simple products, and it looks like I’ll have to add this set to the collection. :)  Available starting December 1 at Pure + simple stores.

Philosophy The Gingerbread Man Foaming Bubble Bath & Shower Gel, $21

If you don’t already know, Philosophy’s Holiday shower gels have a cult following larger than Justin Bieber’s. :P  The Gingerbread Man is one shower gel that can’t be missed.  The scent is sharp and citrusy like ginger ale.  Again, this one is great for sleepy mornings, but if ginger ale’s not your cuppa tea… I just don’t see how you couldn’t like my next suggestion.  Available exclusively at Sephora for a limited time.

Philosophy Classic Fudge Cake High-Foaming Shampoo, Shower Gel & Bubble Bath, $21

Fellow chocoholics, put your hands up!  Unlike The Gingerbread Man, Classic Fudge Cake is actually permanent, so you don’t have to hoard bottles of this one to last you until next Christmas.  I love Philosophy’s shower gels because they always seem to get the scent perfectly, and this one is no different.  It tastes, er, smells like cake without the calories.  A little disclaimer though: there is a real recipe on the label, so bake it if you dare!  I heard it’s delicious.  Available exclusively at Sephora.

LUSH The First Snow, $34.95

This awesome shower kit comes with: Snow Globe Soap 3.5 Oz, Iced Wine Shower Jelly 3.5 Oz, Ice Blue Soap 3.5 Oz, Glögg Shower Gel 3.3 Fl. Oz., Too Drunk…Emotibomb 1.8oz.  Too Drunk… Emotibomb is my favourite.  It kinda smells hippy-ish.  Does that make sense?  It smells good, I swear!  This is a nice set for those who are without a bath tub but still want their bathroom to smell like a LUSH store. :D

LUSH Best Wishes, $19.95

This is an absolute must for those who love their long baths.  The set contains: So White Bath Bomb 3.1 Oz, Satsumo Santa Bath Bomb 6.3 Oz, Bearded Lady Bubble Bar 3.5 Oz.  Satsumo is another personal favourite; it smells so amazing, and how cute is the tubby Santa?  Adorbz!
