Because Bright Pink Lipsticks Don’t Have To Cost Your Entire Month’s Budget: Joe Fresh Matte Lipstick in Fuchsia.

I feel really bad when I feature high end lipsticks here because I know some of you are poor starving students who cannot afford them.  It wasn’t very long ago when I was in university myself, so I can totally relate.

Today’s post is especially for you.

This, my friends, is Joe Fresh Matte Lipstick in Fuchsia ($6).  You read right; only $6. :)

Joe Fresh Matte Lipstick in Fuchsia

Joe Fresh Matte Lipstick in Fuchsia is beautiful bright blue pink.  This lipstick builds to full intensity in two to three swipes.  The colour is obviously freakin’ fantastic, and even better, the matte formula is to die for!  It has the same melty consistency as a cream finish lipstick, but has a soft matte finish and lightweight feel like this other lipstick that is near and dear to my heart.

Naturally, I had to see how this colour compares to my two other bright pinks in my lipstick army.  shu uemura Rouge Unlimited in PK376 is a lot warmer, and darker.  YSL Rouge Pur Couture in Le Fuchsia is darker, and just a tad warmer than Joe Fresh Fuchsia.

And of course, the full face photo.

If you like your bright pink lipstick (I’m looking at you, Anjali and Michelle!), Joe Fresh Fuchsia would make a great addition to your collection.  This is as good as it gets for the price point. :)

Some Beauty Blogger Photography Tips from Yours Truly

Ever since I adopted the white background as per theNotice’s tips and tricks for beauty bloggers (which by the way, is a must-read!), I have a lot more things to consider when taking a good full face photo.  Currently the list is as follows:

  1. Daylight: you needz it.
  2. There should never be any lipstick smear on my teeth or cheeks.
  3. My face should not look fat.  Remember that 3/4 view is way more slimming than frontal view.
  4. If possible, crop the photo so that your face is off centre.
  5. When in doubt, blot.  Your forehead and nose has a tendency to be greasy.
  6. (NEW!) My hair shalt not be frizzy.  Have a bottle of MoroccanOil nearby.

So much work, eh? Any tips you would like to add?

EOTD: Graphic Teal and Blue.

Sometimes I do pretty makeup, but there are days when I just want to put on over the top, I-really-hope-no-one-rings-the-doorbell-right-now makeup.  Today is one of those days, LOL! ;)

Get the Look

  1. Start with an eye primer (Urban Decay Primer Potion) all over the lids up to the brows to make colours appear as vibrant as possible.
  2. With a flat synthetic brush, pick up an icy blue (blue eyeshadow from CARGO Venice) and apply to the inner third of the lid and inner third of lower lash line.
  3. Flip the brush over, then take a matte teal (joe fresh Peacock) to the outer two-thirds of the lid and middle of the lower lash line.  Blend the two colours where they meet.
  4. Then, using a pointed crease brush (MAC 226), trace out the wing with a deep matte navy (Annabelle B-Ray).  Fill in the wing on the outer third of the lid.  Line the outer third of the lower lash line.
  5. Take a fine tipped liner brush and emphasize the shape of the wing with the same navy eyeshadow.  See pictures for details, it’s kinda hard to explain.
  6. I didn’t like the blue inner corner highlight on its own, so I applied a shimmery peach (MAC Arena) on top.  Highlight the brow bone as well.
  7. Blend lightly above the navy with a mid-tone warm brown eyeshadow (MAC Soft Brown).
  8. Line the upper lash line and waterline with black eyeliner (MAC Blacktrack Fluidline).
  9. Apply mascara, and false lashes (Ardell 120 Demi) if you like.

Swatches: joe fresh Eyeshadow in Peacock.

Remember how I said I brought home another joe fresh yesterday?  Here is joe fresh Eyeshadow in Peacock ($4), possibly the most beautiful matte teal eyeshadow I have ever laid my eyes on. :)

Swatches: no base / over Urban Decay Primer Potion

For a $4 eyeshadow, the pigmentation and quality of this eyeshadow blew me away.  It’s almost unbelievable, really.

What do you think?  You likey?  Scherbie approves! :)

Excellent taste, Scherbatsky!
