The Poor Girl’s Chanel Paradoxal Nail Polish.
Sep 8th
It seems that everyone and their kittens are obsessing over Chanel Paradoxal nail polish from the Fall 2010 collection. I, too, think it’s gorgeous but sadly I am on a self-imposed Chanel counter ban.
So instead of forking over $20+ (likely $30) dollars for the Chanel, I thought I would mix two inexpensive colours that I already have to see if I can get close enough to Paradoxal.
If you’re not familiar with Chanel Paradoxal, have a look-see over at All Lacquered Up for swatches.

Wearing 1 part Rimmel Fantasy, 1 part Rimmel Steel Gray
(I realize that I’m probably never gonna be a nail blogger in this lifetime.)

This was my first time mixing two nail colours together and I was pretty pleased. I didn’t really know what to mix them in, so I just mixed them over a sheet of wax paper and it worked out well.
I think I have a pretty good dupe here, judging by the swatches I found all over the Internet. It might be a tad bit too purple, so I’ll probably go 2 parts gray, 1 part purple next time. It just takes a little bit of elbow grease to mix the colours, and some nail polish remover to clean off the brush to not contaminate the colour in the original bottle. And for $0, that’s a pretty sweet deal.
Pin Up Look Inspired by Dita Von Teese.
Sep 6th
My poor MAC Dare You lipstick has been collecting dust in my vanity all throughout the warm summer months, so I decided to take her out to play for today’s look. I wasn’t exactly sure what I was going to do, but Jenn of Spiced Beauty suggested that I do a pin up look. I found this photo of Dita Von Teese that I thought would be perfect:

Swatches (from left): UD Sin, UD Naked, MAC Sweet Chestnut, MAC Spiced Chocolate, MAC Dark Devotion, MAC Soft Brown
Get the Look
For the eyes, fill in your brows darker than you usually do (MAC Dark Devotion). Start with a matte base similar to your natural lid colour (UD Naked) all over the lid up to the brows. Take a shimmery cranberry (MAC Sweet Chestnut) into the crease and blend out. Smudge this colour on the lower lash line. Then using a pointed crease brush, deepen the crease with a matte black brown (MAC Dark Devotion). Again smudge on top of the cranberry on the lower lash line. Blend out the crease colours with a matte chocolate brown (MAC Spiced Chocolate). Blend above the crease colour with a medium brown (MAC Soft Brown) to soften. Highlight the inner lower lash line with a shimmery champagne (UD Sin).
Start lining the eyes by smudging the black brown on the top lash line and wing out, and trace on top with a black liquid liner (Revlon Colorstay Liquid Liner). Apply mascara to the top lashes (Marcelle Power Volume Mascara), and top off with big, big, BIG lashes (shu uemura Smoky Layers false lashes).
For the cheeks, apply a matte rose blush (Chanel Rose Temptation) to the hollows of the cheeks to contour.
For the lips, apply a dark red lipstick (MAC Dare You) to complete the look. I really should have used a lip liner for this lipstick in particular, since it tends to bleed. I had to fix the full face photos after the fact so the lips didn’t look so messy.

Cover FX EyePrep FX Launch and Treasure Hunt!
Sep 5th
Last week I was invited to the launch party for Cover FX’s newest primer, EyePrep FX. EyePrep FX is an eye primer for the eyelids and under eye area that is meant to intensify and keep eye make up in place, fill in fine lines, and combat darkness under the eyes. I got one in my swag bag and it is deee-licious on the skin. I of course will test it out for a few weeks before I post a review.
For now I am excited to tell you about a Cover FX treasure hunt that will be happening in select cities over Canada, US, and the UK! Make sure to check the Cover FX Facebook page for clues.

Of course there were photos. Why would I forget?

Swatch: Chanel Mademoiselle Rouge Coco Lipstick.
Sep 4th
Did I not mention that I got something else besides that gorgeous Chanel blush? Oops, I must have intentionally forgotten!
Mademoiselle is probably the most popular colour in the fairly new Chanel Rouge Coco line of lipsticks ($38). For a long time I have been passing counters by instead of swatching Mademoiselle, knowing full well that my gullible, makeup loving self will want it. I was right — I do want it, and now have it.

I totally understand the number of ladies who are ooh-ing and aah-ing over Mademoiselle. It is one of those colours that looks great on almost everyone. It’s an almost-matte slightly brown pink; a demure pink that is flattering on many skin tones.
So I’ll stop the rambling here and just show you the photos, ‘kay?

Scherbatsky’s Photoshoot.
Sep 3rd
It’s been a while since I’ve posted about Scherbie’s antics. So just in time for the long weekend, I got her to pose a little in front of the camera. I think she was feeling quite photogenic today.

She looks so goofy (and round) in this one! Hahaha!

We were told by the pet store associate that she is 5 months old, but our vet told us that she is either maturing really fast or is actually a month or two older than what we thought. We might have to take her to get spayed soon.
She’s become a little rascal, too. She’s really vocal about being hungry and gets in your face a lot. One time she tipped the trash can over, scattering garbage all over the floor. She is so naughty! A very sweet, but very naughty kitty!
Have a Great Long Weekend!
For my North American ladies, have a fantastic long weekend.
Mine will consist of a lot of greasy food. Good times!
