How to Lighten Up Your Makeup Routine for Spring

New season, new beauty routine, right? Well, it’s a good time to spring clean your makeup regimen anyway, and an excellent excuse to go shopping for some great new products that launched recently. 😉

Spring Routine

Opt for a weightless, luminous base.

My newest foundation crush is Guerlain Metéorites Baby Glow (shown in shade 4 Doré, $63). The shade, although named Golden, is slightly too pink for my current complexion*, but it works to impart a creamy skin tone. This is a trick usually done in the Asian market to neutralize strong yellow tones in Asian skin. I just love how this looks on. It provides that infamous subtle I-can’t-tell-what-you-did-differently-today-but-damn-girl-ya-look-good Metéorite pearl glow with the added benefit of a medium coverage foundation. You’ll notice in my photos that this doesn’t cover the pimple under my lip completely, but it does provide some coverage that I’m okay going sans concealer for a regular day  with Baby Glow.

* Actually also now a little too pale for me because I just spent a week on a beach.

Get a wide eyed look with the right mascara.

Like a great push-up bra for your eyes, look for a mascara that’ll lift and separate your lashes. Benefit Roller Lash ($29) has a carefully designed Hook ‘n’ Roll™ brush that grabs on to each lash and separates, lifts and curls them. The mascara formula itself is lightweight to keep the curl all day.

Highlight, don’t contour that pretty face.

Don’t get mad at me. I myself am a big fan of contouring (tutorials here and here) but I think highlighting alone is so so pretty in the springtime. Especially coming out of winter when everyone is at their palest, you can easily botch a contouring job if you’re not careful. Highlighting pens are my weapons of choice, and the new Rodial Instaglam Glow ($36) is the perfect tool. Straight out of the pen, the product is super metallic and quite intimidating, but it sheers out to a believable subtle pearly glow.

Goodbye opaque matte lipsticks; hello juicy candy lips!

Burberry Kisses ($36) is the new line of lipsticks from the luxury beauty brand (with 28 shades in total!). If I was to describe it in a word, I would say bouncy. It is a gel formula that is hydrating and quite slippery on the lips. I received 37 Pink Peony and 73 Bright Coral for review, and both are lively shades that I’d happily wear this season. Personally though, this isn’t my favourite lipstick formula from Burberry Beauty. I think the sheer Lip Mists are a better choice if you like a more traditional lipstick formula.

  • Aren’t you a pretty mama!!! I am also a huge fan of Baby Glow. I like how it lifts sallow was without changing my undertone (not to the point that it is visibly different from my neck anyways). Would definitely like to lay my hands on a Roller Lash sample to see what the hype is all about!

    • Yes that’s exactly it Sunny! It’s such a pretty coverage. Roller Lash is a nice clean mascara finish. No big lashes here, just definition and lift.

You don’t need Baby Glow to look glowy, Arianne! Gorgeous!
And yes to highlighting without contour. While sculpted cheekbones are nice, it’s softer and prettier without edges 🙂

    • Thanks Lily! It’s half-sweat, half-Baby Glow. LOL

  • So fresh and pretty! I’m all about highlighted skin and sheer bright lips for Spring. You wear the look so well! xo

    • Thanks Jennifer! I’m glad you agree! I think when spring hits every year, without fail, I douse myself in highlighter lol!

  • Yes to juicy candy lips!! And all you need is a light base, girl, you skin is so naturally beautiful and radiant!

  • Ah! You look so dewy and glowy and tropical princess-like! I agree on the nightlight-only advice. Sometimes a little glow is all you need. <3
