Back to the Gym Beauty Essentials - Mereadesso, Kaia Bamboo, Neutrogena

It’s January, and that means a lot of us are dragging our butts back to the gym again after slacking for the latter part of last year. Am I right? I myself am ready to sweat out all the holiday chocolate and get back on track on my fitness. But not without a little help in the beauty department. And I’m not talking about makeup to the gym! No no. I’m talking about post-workout body and facial skincare.

Neutrogena Body Clear Grapefruit Body Wash and Cleansing Wipes

Whenever I am in the zone and being a full blown Sweaty Betty at the gym, I also tend to get back acne (a.k.a. bacne). It’s unsightly and annoying. I have been using this everyday for years: NEUTROGENA Body Clear Pink Grapefruit Body Wash ($8.99 – $10.99 for 250mL). I don’t get bacne anymore these days, I 100% attribute it to this product. I don’t even remember how many bottles I’ve gone through already. Its wonderful grapefruit scent is so invigorating in the mornings. If I don’t have time for a shower after the gym, the next best thing is NEUTROGENA Pink Grapefruit Oil-Free Cleansing Wipes for Acne-Prone Skin ($8.99 – $10.99 for 25 pre-moistened wipes). The wipes don’t leave a greasy residue, and eliminates dirt and sweat from my workout that clog the pores on my back.

Mereadesso All-in-one Moisturizer, Kaia Bamboo Wipes

Now for my face. I’ve been caught in the gym before without a facial wash, and I had to use that generic, skin drying body wash they have for the gym for my face. Ouch! Never again. kaia naturals 100% Biodegradable Bamboo Facial Cleansing Cloths ($15.50 for 30 cloths, or $19.50 for 20 individually wrapped cloths at some spas and natural product stores like Whole Foods across Canada and the US) are fantastic because they are so soft, durable and are soaked with vitamins B12, C, and E that nourish the skin plus organic honey and essential oils that smell just wonderful. These really are the softest cleansing cloths I’ve found, and they do the job without having to rinse after. They don’t sting one bit, especially since my skin is a little red and sensitive after exercising. These bamboo cloths are also good for you and the environment: paraben-, sulfate-, alcohol-free, 100% biodegradable and cruelty free. Perfection, right?

Don’t you dare leave the gym without giving that skin some good lovin': a nourishing moisturizer. Mèreadesso All-in-One Moisturizer ($120 for 50 mL online). Okay, I know this is so expensive, but it really is a one-step wonder. When I’m at the gym, my usual one-thousand step skin regimen doesn’t really work. I need something snappy to get out of there as quickly as possible. The brand advertises it as “a single-step solution for your face and neck full of incentive to toss every other moisturizer, toner, serum, primer, day cream, night cream and eye cream you own.” Those are some pretty ballsy claims, and I don’t think I can ever part with my serums and oils, but I really like this moisturizer. It absorbs quickly, is lightly fragranced (which dissipates after application) and is packed with over 20 antioxidants.  It also comes in a travel size for $28, in case you want to try before splurging for a full-size bottle.

Two more things I can’t leave home without:

  1. My favourite and the only coconut water I drink because it doesn’t taste like socks: ZICO Chocolate Coconut Water (414ml bottle or 1L tetra, at Walmart, Metro, Loblaws and Shoppers Drug Mart). My friends at ZICO even sent me this amazing gym bag (thanks ZICO!).
  2. Lululemon the (small) towel ($18 at Lululemon). Because I get duh-rrrrenched and this magical little towel somehow sops up all that sweat.

Okay, it’s time to get some abs. What beauty essentials are in your gym bag?

That moisturizer looks fantastic! The travel size would be perfect to slip in a gym bag.

It’s such a great moisturizer. The travel size is perfect, also for airplane skincare. :)

I do a different kinda thang, haha, so I have legwarmers and a Nalgene of regular water tucked into my workout bag. And grip aids. As far as beauty essentials…erm. Not much! Haha.

Do you have a medicine ball? I want one. But they’re surprisingly expensive, lol!

I think it’s mostly because I get bacne and sensitive skin after a workout that I need to “fix” it right away. I have a slam ball (?) in the garage gym that we use as a medicine ball. But I don’t work out in the garage now. It’s too cold! The extent of my workouts at home is Blogilates. But I’ll be signing up for the gym end of January!

I’ve heard good things about that Mereodesso serum. I love Zico too, ive never tried the chocolate, not I must! I work out at home mostly, but when I do head out to a yoga class I bring a facial spritz… And head RIGHT home!

Hi NH! I just updated the post with the availability. They are in some spas and natural product stores (e.g. Whole Foods) across Canada and the US.

Ugh thanks for reminding me I need to go back to the gym. I always carry disinfectant wipes to wipe off the machines and stuff…but I really should put a bag together….great picks!
