I’m almost always thinking about cake. NOM.
I love luuuuuuurve cake, but not when it comes to my base makeup. Personally, I like my foundation/concealer/powder to be undetectable on the skin, but cover imperfections like a champ. I’ve been using these four products over the summer to help me achieve a skin with zero caking. I’ll save the cake for my belly, thank you very much.
Cake-free makeup champions: Benefit Cosmetics Stay Flawless 15-Hour Primer, L’Oréal Magic Nude Liquid Powder Foundation, IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye, Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder
My favourite launch of summer 2013, the newish Benefit Cosmetics Stay Flawless 15-Hour Primer ($38 at Sephora) has been my go-to primer for long days. This paraben-free invisible stick is incredibly cooling, weightless and really does prime like a pro. I apply one stripe on my forehead, down my nose, on my cheeks, top and bottom of my mouth. It really anchors down my makeup and keeps it fresh for at least 6 hours longer than if I didn’t wear Stay Flawless. I love this because there isn’t that silicone feeling to it and it really feels like nothing once it’s dry. My only issue with this is the packaging. The cover doesn’t want to snap closed, so I don’t know if I’ll be traveling with mine yet.
Before Stay Flawless dries, I apply 3 to 5 drops of L’Oréal Magic Nude Liquid Powder Foundation in 328 Sun Beige ($18.99 at mass retailers and drugstores) all over my face with clean fingers. We all know the velvety smooth, magical Giorgio Armani Maestro foundation by now, right? To the touch, Magic Nude Liquid Powder Foundation feels exactly like Maestro. There are a few differences between the mass and luxury version. The most obvious one is the packaging. I don’t love the packaging on Magic Nude because it gets foundation drips all over the bottle. I can’t detect a fragrance in Magic Nude, so it’s missing that ultra-luxe light fragrance of Maestro (might be a pro or con depending on the person). Magic Nude provides light-to-medium coverage; it literally covers like powder but in liquid form. When I wore Magic Nude on its own (without primer and powder), I had to blot my nose after 5 hours, but everything else stayed in place.
There has been a lot of hype for IT Cosmetics recently thanks to Jessica of Beautezine (hey girl!). Those who haven’t tried the brand yet, I absolutely agree with Jessica that you should. I am totally smitten with IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye in Tan ($24 at Beauty.com). This potent under eye concealer has peach undertones so it is like having a built-in corrector that is perfect for cancelling out dark circles. I buff a teeny tiny dot of Bye Bye Under Eye using the IT Cosmetics Dual Airbrush Foundation Concealer Brush ($48 at Beauty.com) and I am done in under a minute. I can even get away with not setting this with powder. I also love this around the mouth where I have a bit of darkness and it brightens the area beautifully!
To set my makeup without chalkiness, I powder down with Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light ($52 at Sephora). I’ve already written a review-slash-love letter to this beauty here. It still is my powder of choice when I want to smooth out pores instantly, which is pretty much always. Obviously. I know it’s meant to be a finishing powder, but Dim Light sets my makeup so well that I’ve also used it to set my makeup now.
Before and After
O hai, I got tanned. (Hiii guys, nice to see you again!)
Now if you’ll excuse me… I need to go find me some cake.
