Youthful, Natural and Effortless Makeup with Hourglass Illume Crème-To-Powder Bronzer Duo in Sunset

I love drawing on a bold lip, cat or smokey eyes (or sometimes, both). However, my favourite look on me is natural, clean and effortless like this no-makeup contoured look.

I came across this photo by Nicolas Méphane on Pinterest and decided to recreate the makeup. I have been using Hourglass Illume Crème-To-Powder Bronzer Duo in Sunset ($46 at Sephora) everyday to achieve the look in seconds.

Sunset contains a sheer rose and sheer bronze creme products that dry to a velvety finish. Although the name suggests that both colours are bronzer products, the rose shade is essentially a blush. The typical bronzer side is a warm brown that is deep enough to bronze my medium-to-tan skin tone (about MAC NC35-37). Both colours are sheer and can be built up to the desired intensity. And boy to these blend beautifully onto the skin! They create the illusion of healthy sun kissed skin and I am obsessed.

Not only do these look good on the skin, but they also contain no parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances, synthetic dyes, or phthalates. The wax-free and oil-free formula lasts all day long on my skin. Sure it’s expensive, but it is a luxury brand/product. You are getting a lot of product for your money here and the finish is just marvellous.

I like to apply the products with a synthetic brush; my Real Techniques Contour Brush from the Core Collection ($27.99, now available to Canadians at Farleyco!) does wonderfully. I start by blending the bronze side along the contours of my cheeks, temples, sides of the nose, jawline and hairline. I then grab the rose side and apply below the apples of the cheeks. This creates the appearance of youthful and more contoured cheekbones. Yup. You’re welcome. 😉

  • Eeep this is pretty! I wasn’t too sure how well this would show up on my skin tone from the promo images alone, but your swatches have convinced me I can totally wear this!

    • Thanks Sunny! It is really a gorgeous product.

  • oh, finally, a canadian retailer that carries real techniques! the prices are much, much higher though, it is probably still cheaper to order from the states.

this look is so pretty — i, too, love natural and clean make-up. i might just add this little palette to my wishlist.

    • Hi Christine! Yeah, I got mine in Ulta when I was in California. It was $18.

Hope you get to try the palette. It’s perfection, really. 🙂

  • You look so healthy and bronzed Arianne! I knew I shouldn’t read this review because now I totally want it myself, lol. I love both shades and I’m really looking for a cream bronzer, so this looks perfect!

    • Hi Teri! This is perfect for you! What other products are you looking at? I want to try the Chanel Soleil de Tan (I think that’s what it’s called…).

  • Um, hello, pretty! Can we just take a moment from this post to look at your skin for a sec? Because… D:

I didn’t even know skin could /be/ that flawless and glowy. You’re kind of breaking my brain, here, doll.

    • Hahaha Rae! I’ve retouched some blemishes around the lip/chin area but thanks. 😛 You’ve turned me into a retouching monsterrrr.

But it’s really the makeup that gives the glow. My skin is pretty dull on its own at the moment.

  • Oh wow! You are so glowy! Ive been wanted to dip my toes into Hourglass. This looks like a great place to start! The formula looks so delectably creamy.. Also thinking a out Laura Mercier Primer now 🙂 amazing

    • Thank you. 🙂 It’s entirely the makeup here. My skin has been annoyingly on the dry side lately.

It was actually Jessica of Getting Cheeky who got me into that Laura Mercier Radiance Primer. It’s fantastic, so you’ll totally love it.

  • dowantmakeup

You look fantastic, stunning, glowy, etc! I had my eye on this one but skipped it because I really need to work through all the blush/bronzer I already have D: Hourglass has stunning packaging and is underrated imo

    • Totally underrated! Thanks Angela. Keep it in mind though if you’re in need of cream products. This duo is amazing!

I have this too and LOVE it. BEST THING ever.

    • ARWEN. Biggest compliment ever. 😀 Thanks Tracy!!!

  • Jen W

I really love the natural dewy flush with this! I thought that the ‘bronzer’ colour was unusually light for a bronzer, but it looks MAGIC on you.

    • The bronzer definitely looks light but it works. I look tan again! 🙂

  • Oooh I’ve been eyeing this for a while, I adore the colors. There’s something about cream products that just give such a natural finish. The LM primer is so lovely too, also the TM in Radiance… they’re among my most favorite products for glowiness that looks totally like your own skin, not makeup

  • lookin good! 🙂 I got the other shade in the summer and then returned it cause it didn’t last on me 🙁 I dunno maybe i didn’t apply enough?? Sad though cause they are PRETTY
