Welcome to Karl Lagerfeld for shu uemura week! The collection is now available across Canada exclusively at Holt Renfrew (and on shuuemura-usa.com), and this week I’ll be posting reviews and swatches of some of the products from this collection. First up, the rouge unlimited lipstick ($31) in this special mon shu packaging.

shu uemura rouge unlimited lipsticks are super creamy semi-opaque lipsticks with high sheen. This is true of all the shades in this collection.

  • celebrity beige is a peach brown. On me, it is a flattering neutral that is not too light or too orange, so it’s perfect for everyday wear.
  • parisienne pink is a milky cool pink. This would look gorgeous against pale, pink-toned complexions. Unfortunately on my darker skin tone (MAC NC40 or NARS Barcelona), parisienne pink washes me out.
  • mon shu red is a bright tomato red. Because of the semi-opaque quality of these lipsticks, this shade applies unevenly. Sads.
  • luxe burgundy is a deep berry plum. This darker shade has the same issue I experienced with mon shu red. It too, is patchy on application.

Of the four shades, I would recommend celebrity beige and parisienne pink. The deeper shades are beautiful but the pigmentation was poor and patchy. If you like the glossy sheen of the darker shades, prep with a similarly coloured lip liner all over the lips first, then apply the lipstick. That’s a lot of work if you ask me.

    I like Luxe Burgundy the most. It doesn’t seem patchy on you, but if you say it is I’ll skip it! I own too many really good lipsticks to make a compromise for this one.

      Hey Sunny! Yes I would only recommend the lighter shades with this. The deeper shades disappointed me. :(

    mon shu red and luxe burgundy are right up my alley, I skipped on the lipsticks but couldn’t on the bordeaux palette. this collection is truly nice. I am temptet by the two lipsticks now.

    They’re so light, hey? Hmmm. If Luxe Burgundy was just a tad more pigmented, I would have had my first Shu Lippie. Mon Shu Red looks pretty on your shmexxxxxy lips Geekz!

    I was all over Mon Shu Red and Luxe Burgundy til the read the bit about those shades being poorly pigmented and patchy D: (although I couldn’t tell with your fab lib swatches)

    OMG! We have the same skin tone! Lol, I wear Nars Barcelona too! And yeah that cool pink lipstick would wash me out. Great review btw!
