The Shanghai Collection by Gucci Westman For Revlon Fall 2012 Reviews, Photos and Swatches

Some items from The Shanghai Collection by Gucci Westman For Revlon Fall 2012

Here we go again with another fall collection. 🙂 The Shanghai Collection by Gucci Westman for Revlon Fall 2012 is “inspired by the romantic films of China, where women adorn ultra-feminine wardrobes of vibrant cheongsam dresses with saturated colours.”

Revlon Cream Eye Shadow Palette in Midnight Express ($12.95) is a limited edition palette. It contains golden green, silver, black, bronzed gold, pearly white and sparkly purple cream eyeshadows. These sheer eyeshadows never set to a powder finish, which are problematic for people (like me!) who have oily eyelids. I suggest using a primer underneath, then layer on the cream eyeshadows, and then layer a matching powder eyeshadow on top. Those who like the “lived in” eyeshadow look or have never had problems with their eyeshadow creasing can wear these alone. For me this is too much work, so I’ll have to skip this one.

There are three new lipstick shades: Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Cherry BlossomRed Lacquer and Pink Pearl ($9.50). Cherry Blossom is an opaque mid-tone reddish pink. Red Lacquer is a sheer blood orange. Pink Pearl is a mid-tone brown pink with gold pearl.

I can’t make up my mind about the Super Lustrous formula. On one hand, it is creamy and has a beautiful finish, but on the other, it feels heavy and thick on my lips. This waxiness does help keep the colour from feathering though, even without lip liner. If you like your lipstick weightless, these aren’t for you. Nevertheless, these new shades are perfect for autumn. You can never go wrong with a rich blue red lipstick like Cherry Blossom. I even like the sheerness of Red Lacquer — that and the glossy finish makes lips look super plump. If you’re a bold lip newbie, Red Lacquer is an easy way to wear colour on your lips. Pink Pearl‘s subdued gold pearl makes it super flattering on many skin tones. It’s a nude that is so easy to wear, even on my tanned skin.

Overall, I think the new lipstick shades — especially Cherry Blossom — will be very popular. The cream eye shadow palette may be more useful for makeup artists in creative shoots, and may not work for mass consumers because of its slippery texture.

The Shanghai Collection by Gucci Westman for Revlon Fall 2012 is launching in September 2012 at drug and mass retailers.

  • Bumming hard, I forgot the shadows are cream formula. They don’t stay put at. all. And what’s up with Red Lacquer? I thought it would be, well…red. As much as I love Revlon, it looks like I’ll be scratching this collection off my list. Wah wah.

    • 🙁 I thought it’d be red, too. But it’s orange.

  • Cherry Blossom looks good 🙂 That’s about all that caught my eye unfortunately. Love your lip swatches though. You’ve got pretty lips!

    • I like Cherry Blossom, too, Lily. I’ll have to do a full face photo with Cherry Blossom and Pink Pearl. I think you’ll like Pink Pearl as well!

  • Ugh this is such a pity! I was thinking that cream shadow palette swatches pretty well! Like you, I need something with seriously lasting power to stay put on my lids all day. My lids are just normal to oily, but since I have monolids things could crease easily.

  • Even though Red Lacquer is a strange name for that particular shade, I LOVE it. It’s soft enough for even a lipstick-phobe like me. But those cream shadows?? I will pass–no WAY are they staying put on my eyes

  • Red Lacquer is right in my wheelhouse! I’m surprised how sheer/muted these all look in your lip swatches, though.

Revlon’s cream eyeshadows: I applied them on my eyes while I was in my living room, walked to the bathroom to see them in a different light and they were creased in the ten seconds it took me to get there. What a disappointment!

Your lips are a very pretty shape!

Red Lacquer is an awesome lip shade. I bought it a week and a half ago and it’s no where as near as muted as it looks in these photos. I find it rather bold. It literally lights up your whole face and it’s pretty long lasting as well as moisturizing. Leaves you with a nice stain after a snack, and it totally doesn’t bleed! Fast becoming my HG!

Oops forgot to say, red lacquer leans toward a warm shade, but it does not go orange on me. I guess it’s a corally red but in some lights it just looks like a bright but not overdone red. I’d compare it to Chanel’s “Rebelle” from their Rouge Allure line, because that is such a gorgeous, desirable shade. However, fortunately, the lasting power of Revlon Red Lacquer is much longer, just as moisturizing, though not quite as shiny. It’d be interesting to see how much bolder and how “everyday” Cherry Blossom might be for me, since I’m finding Red Lacquer a shade one could get away with pretty much everyday.

  • Urgh. I am sad that these are cream shadows as well. I like the indelible type cream formulas (paintpots and the like) but the Revlon formula is just too greasy for me. Though it can make for an interesting editorial look.

The lipsticks on the other hand? Those looks FAB. Definitely will be looking for those.

Thank you so much for the swatches and review!

I really want to like the shadows & lippies, but this is a major miss for me. I like the colors of the product but when swatched its ugh, not worth the effort.

  • I actually really like all the lippie shades, they’re quite pretty and wearable – though I wouldn’t pay top dollar for them as they’re certainly nothing special (though Cherry Blossom on you – ack!! Super gorgeous!!).

NOT a fan of that kind of eyeshadow at all – in fact, not much of a fan of cream shadows as a whole – but the shades are quite pretty! 🙂
