My Latest Drugstore Mascara Love: L’Oreal Voluminous False Fiber Lashes Black Lacquer Mascara

I feature a lot of high end brands, but my favourite mascaras — 9 times out of 10 — can be found at the drugstore. It’s definitely a “save” item for me instead of “splurge.” You’ll see why.

L’Oreal Voluminous False Fiber Lashes Black Lacquer Mascara

L’Oreal is famous for their Voluminous mascara, and the new release — Voluminous False Fiber Lashes Black Lacquer ($11.99) — meets my lashes’ expectations and more.  The mascara promises to provide a “vinyl-sheen, creating lashes that are ultra-black, ultra-glossy and ultra-outrageous.”

L’Oreal Voluminous False Fiber Lashes Black Lacquer Mascara – Wand

I think this is an incredible mascara.  These days I’m all about lots of lashes: volumized, lengthy and separated.  This relaxes the curl from my lash curler a bit, but considering the amount of volume I get from this mascara, I’d say it is pretty weightless.  Other volumizing mascaras would’ve left my lashes dead straight.

L’Oreal Voluminous False Fiber Lashes Black Lacquer Mascara – Before / After

One thing that is very obvious about this mascara is how black it is. Like, really black. The brush does a great job distributing the product and coating each lash fat and glossy, while still keeping them non-spidery. I love it. I do get minor smudging with this along my lower lash line at the end of the day, but it’s nowhere near raccoon eyes-ville and I am totally fine with that!

Have you tried this mascara? What’s your favourite mascara for big lashes?

  • GETTING THIS TODAY! I’m using the collagen Voluminous Collagen one and while it gives amazing volume, it does make my lashes look spidery sometimes. I’m really loving the volume the false finer one gives you so… I want it in my life! :p

    • Yay! Glad to help Dani. 🙂

  • Melissa

I had this in my hand the other day but put it back and bought Maybelline Stiletto Mascara, and it was a mistake. It gives me a little length, but it’s not buildable at all. I get spider lashes. My lashes need more help then that.

I think my next purchase will be Voluminous False Fibers or finally cave and buy Armani Eyes to Kill.

  • Ooh you got it too! I was just telling Larie that I recently bought this and am excited to try it–but haven’t gotten a chance yet as I have to wait until I photograph it to try it…and of course, there is a MASSIVE backlog of things waiting to be photographed over here at the moment :/ This looks gorgeous on you though, and it may have to move up the queue so I can get to it faster 😛

  • BooBooNinja

Has this ousted Annabelle Le Big Show from the top of your list?

    • Hmm I still like Annabelle because it doesn’t smudge. But for really black lashes L’Oreal wins.

  • I still have a new tube of L’Oreal mascara sitting around waiting to be tested out, but with everything that keeps piling up I haven’t! You have amazing lashes as it is, Arianne! Don’t get me started about how jealous I am!

    • Hey Sunny. 🙂 I’ve been using a lash serum. I think it works. 😉 Review to come.

      • BooBooNinja

I’m looking forward to reading it.
        @Sunny eagle eyes!

  • I have this in the waterproof version and love it…just need to wipe off the excess first before applying. and best thing is it holds my curl, which is pretty precious considering most other mascaras tend to weigh my lashes down.

New follower by the way. Love your blog!

    • Hi Anne! Thanks for following. 🙂 Great to hear that the waterproof version works great; waterproof mascaras are PERFECT for holding a curl. I also like CoverGirl LashBlast waterproof for that reason.

    • BooBooNinja

Thanks for writing in, Anne. I have stubbornly straight lashes so I’ll give the waterproof version a go when I’m finished with my current two.

  • Wow, looks gorgeous. Maybe this could replace my beloved, and discontinued LORAC fiber mascara?

    • Give it a try Christine! What did you like about the LORAC mascara? I must say, I haven’t tried anything from the brand!

  • Love the effect of False Fiber on you Arianne! Too bad this smudges… I have zero tolerance for anything that goes where it shouldn’t. Swear by Dejavu Fiberwig for staying power but its black lacks intensity and oomph. Love that it rinses off with easily warm water though.

    • Hi Sue Lin! Is Fiberwig a tubing mascara? I had tried one a long time ago — Clinique Lash Power — and I liked that one!

  • I am actually in the market for a new mascara, and this one looks fantastic on you Arianne – definitely sells it! 😀 I think I read one review though where the fibers possibly caused eye irritation – thoughts? I have somewhat sensitive eyes so I’m nervous for that reason only. Gotta love a black BLACK mascara though!

    • Hi Toya, I haven’t experienced any flaking with this at all. I absolutely hate flaky mascara, and this one certainly doesn’t have that problem!

  • Maybelline Falsies Flared is my go-to for big lashes.

    • Thanks for the recommendation, Beauty Box! I’ll have to try that sometime.

  • from your pics, the effect is really GREAT.

    got to try this.

one question : is it easy to remove?? and is it waterproof or not? (can i use Bioderma cleansing water to remove it with ease)

I absolutely adore your blog. The makeup is wonderful and I’ll really love to try that out!

    • Hi Miss Kwong, your Bioderma will remove this easily. 🙂 It’s not waterproof.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  • Love, love, love this mascara. It’s been a staple in my bag for awhile.
