Fun With Lipstick: Two Ways To Wear NARS Niagara Lipstick

NARS Lipstick in Niagara

Happy weekend! I hope your weekend is off to a great start. Mine is going great; I’m playing with lipstick, what else? πŸ™‚ Niagara is my first lipstick from NARS, and I am very impressed! I love the creaminess of the formula, plus it’s opaque and long-wearing. It’s a beautiful coral pink that I’m sure to wear a lot in the warm months ahead.

Reader Jacqui requested for a photo of my bare lips for reference before I do my lip swatches. Well here you go, guys! Beige, grey and all sorts of boring. πŸ™‚

NARS Niagara Lipstick ($30) has potential to be crazy fun (as you’ll see later), but for now this is what it looks like worn alone. It’s an easy to wear glossy coral pink. It’s the lighter, pinker and glossier sister of MAC Crosswires. On my lips, Niagara looks more pink, but on others it may lean more coral. Check out how it looks on Saadeh of Shadowy Lady.

Let’s kick it up a few notches, shall we?

Here is what NARS Niagara looks like layered atop a cherry red lip liner. O HAI. It’s a deep watermelon red, deeper and redder than MAC Impassioned. What a transformation, right? Mixing lipstick colours is what I do for fun. πŸ˜‰ Try it sometime! You’ll be surprised what awesome combinations you might come up with.

  • Wow, I love it with the liner! You’ve just encourage me to have a hunt around my lipstick draw for suitable combinations to try!

    • Thanks Victoria! Would love to know any winning combinations you come up with. πŸ™‚

  • OH WOW! I haven’t got into lip liners at all, but it looks like I have to start! It’s a great lipstick, and layering makes it seem like two completely different lipsticks! Your natural lips aren’t boring tss. I think everybody’s would look a bit washed-out in pictures!

    • Hey Sunny! Yeah I’ve seen lip liners used to warm up too-cool pale pinks, so this is really just the same idea but with more colour. πŸ™‚ Enjoy experimenting!

  • Beautiful! I’ve never played with lip liners but now I just might have to. Thanks for the tip!

    • You have to, Soha! And report back with your findings. πŸ™‚

  • You bandits have done something to me. I’m loving the look of the deeper brighter lips! Looks lovely, my dear. πŸ™‚

  • Kristi C. (@lov2read68)

I like Niagara by itself on you but I love it over a red liner! I don’t often take time to mess with a liner – usually wearing a color that doesn’t require a liner. However, seeing how much a color can be changed with a liner tells me I need to get my liners out & start playing a bit. Thanks for the tip!

    • You’re welcome Kristi! Enjoy mixing colours. πŸ™‚

  • Oh wow, lovely Arianne! I just bought MAC Crosswires, but I sort of wish I had gotten Niagara as Crosswires is *slightly* too bright for my tastes. And Niagara looks fabulous over the lip liner, that IS a great tip. Thanks a ton!

    • Hi Toya! Thank you for your comment. You can try toning down Crosswires with a pale pink liner, or perhaps something closer to your natural lip colour?

  • Love this! β€œ@TheGlitterGeek: I wrote a post today, see! I’ll be wearing NARS Niagara Lipstick both ways all summer.”

  • Love this! Both ways! I need a coral lipstick NAO.

    • Yes Larie you must! I just bought another coral lipstick this weekend. xD

  • Kimberley

I love this lipstick – its definitely one of my favourites! I’ve never tried to mix colours together, I will have to give it a shot because it looks amazing on you.

    • Thanks Kimberley! How do you usually wear NARS Niagara?

  • Oh gosh… Now it’s on my to-buy list…

    • Hehehe bandit psychology. πŸ˜‰

  • Andrea B.

Awesomesauce! Love the second look over the red liner! Stunning!

    • Hope you try it out Andrea!

  • Ande

    I NEED this lipstick.

    • Ande, you’d so rock this lipstick!

  • Geeks, lipstick is MADE for you

    • I like to think so too Wands. πŸ˜‰

  • Well now someone needs NARS Niagara lipstick:

  • NARS Niagara Lipstick looks SO pretty on my pal via @TheGlitterGeek

  • loooooooooooove it over the red liner, that’s one hot look!

  • Ugh, girl. I love how this looks on you!

(Also: your lipstick-free lips? Way too pretty to be fair to the rest of us.)

    • Really? But it looks so colourless. πŸ™

  • Oh my goodness, I LOVE how this lipstick looks by itself–it’s definitely my kind of lipstick (I generally don’t wear super opaque, full-coverage lipsticks). And the whole look on you is perfection! You’re so gorgeous

  • Such a pretty colour on you! Both of them.

  • Geez girl, why do you have to show me another $$ Nars lipstick that is now a must have?? That color is gorgeous both ways!! You are killing me (and my wallet!) Your lip shape is so enviable too.

  • Your lips are never boring!!! That lipstick look so nice and creamy!

  • C

That color looks amazing on you! I love both looks; super cheery and bright πŸ™‚

  • Jacqui

Thanks so much for fulfilling my request! πŸ˜€
This lipstick is gorgeous…I need it! Ahh!

  • I don’t experiment with makeup too often, but I love what you did with your lip colour!

  • I am pretty sure I have passed this up in the past because I would have thought that this shade would wash me out. I just need the right lip pencil and luckily I have a TON to choose from!

A very pretty alternative, thanks for sharing this!

  • First off, you are gorgeous beyond gorgeous girl. Second, this looks really really good on top of the red liner. I think I am going to have to a do a little experimenting of my own!

  • Danielle

Although I like both ways you wore it, I have to admit that when I scrolled to the second picture I audibly gasped. *SO* gorgeous, just like you Geekz!

  • Gah! I’m in love. Both looks are so gorgeous.

  • How is the formula of the NARS Niagra. From your swatches it alone is a perfect MLBB lipstick for me, and It looks awesome with the red lip liner.

    • I really like the formula, Jayme! It is slightly glossy and creamy. It doesn’t dry out my lips either. πŸ™‚

  • Wow! Amazing what makeup can do! I love the lip color with Niagara. I barely use lipstick because it feels heavy on the lips plus I habitually lick my lips so it disappears easily when I apply one. I’ll definitely try the last one though as it really looks pretty. Do you have eyelash extension suggestions as well?
