Lipstick Bandits: The One That Started The Obsession.

MAC Lipstick in Crosswires ($17.50) was one of the first to join my small lipstick army a couple of years ago. I truly believe it was my gateway drug to brighter, bolder lipstick (like OMG Impassioned!).

MAC Lipstick in Crosswires

At the time, I was obsessed with finding a lipstick to match what Leighton Meester was wearing here. I thought Crosswires was the perfect candidate.

When I first put this on, I actually thought it was too bright that it was unwearable. Who was that person? Now this is one of my most wearable lipsticks. Perfect for the warmer months, when I’ll be wearing a fresh face more often. O hai, Spring, are you coming soon?

MAC Crosswires Lipstick

So long story short: MAC Lipstick Crosswires was bright, and now it’s wearable. Do we get that?

The only thing I don’t like about this — now that I’ve tried a kajillion and a half lipsticks — is the formula. My lips don’t really agree with the Cremesheen formula. While they impart amazing amount of pigment, they tend to suck the moisture out of my lips. So I make sure to layer balm underneath, or a moisturizing gloss on top.

I thought I might as well do a full look with this, taking Leighton Meester’s fresh face as inspiration.

Get the Look

For the eyes, pat on a shimmery light beige (MAC All That Glitters) on the lid. Using a tapered crease brush, apply a warm matte brown (MAC Soft Brown) to the crease. Follow with a taupe brown (MAC Coquette) to the crease to create a natural-looking shadow. On the outer corner of the lid, apply a matte chocolate brown (MAKE UP FOR EVER #17 Espresso) to create depth. Line the upper lash line with black liquid or gel liner (YSL Shocking) and wing out slightly. Line the top waterline with a black pencil. Line the bottom lash line with a shimmery taupe brown gel liner (MAC Added Goodness Fluidline).

I decided to add a few short and medium Ardell lash flares to add more volume and length on the outer corners before I used mascara.

For the cheeks, apply a coral blush to the apples of the cheeks (Tarte Blissful). Add a luminous pink highlight on the top of the cheeks (Marcelle Pink Fusion).

For the lips, apply coral lipstick (MAC Crosswires) straight from the tube for maximum colour intensity.

  • Hey Arianne, it’s a great pick! Before I got to fall in love with lipsticks (my first would be Chanel Rouge Coco Mademoiselle, and it’s your fellow lipstick bandit Jenny who lured me to the dark side lol) I have tried this one on, seeing how nice it looks on other people. I was probably not ready for it though, so I ended up not walking away with it. Now that I’m a little more comfortable with lipsticks it might be time to visit the MAC counter again and see how Crosswires and I get along! Thanks for sharing 🙂

  • I now NEED crosswires!!!! I can see why you were inspired Leighton is so beautiful in the photo!

  • LOL @ gateway drug. Crosswires is a gorgeous colour; I may need to check it out now (Lipstick Bandits have struck again?!)

  • Danielle

I love it! Crosswires is such a perfect match to what Leighton’s wearing. I need to bust that color out again, it’s stunning! I know what you mean too, about thinking it’s bright, my gauge has really changed over the years!

  • I LOVE CROSSWIRES! Lovely look!

  • Yay Arianne! You look so purty 🙂

Funny how that works, no? Lipsticks that I thought were CRAZY bright before are now just sort of bright. But wearable. ._.

  • Wow! Great match to Leighton’s lipstick! I love it on you. SO PRETTY. I don’t have Crosswires…hmmm…these posts enable me!

  • Crosswires is lovely! I’ll be sure to check this out when next I’m at a MAC store!

  • Arianne, this is so gorgeous! But… oh noes, another lipstick to add to my neverending MAC wishlist… ;( x

  • Ahh, it is one of my favorite lipsticks too 😀
    Looks fab on you 🙂

  • Crosswires is a gorgeous pick! I think you’ve single-handedly influenced more of my MAC purchases than anyone else (except maybe Karen at MBB).

Also, I’m loving those lash flares on you! Most of the time, I’m too lazy to use them, but they do photograph ever so nicely.

  • Such a pretty shade! I can’t believe I’ve never even *heard* of this shade before!

Also, that Leighton Meester photo = perfect wedding look.

  • I’d say Crosswire is a pretty good match! But for a moment there I thought that was a picture of Minka Kelly and not Leighton Meester. They look alike, super pretty and all!

  • Your eye makeup is just … perfect! As much as I want to love Cremesheens they don’t agree with my lips either. It’s a shame as this is an absolutely gorgeous shade, I’d love to try it. (Who am I kidding, I’ll probably throw caution to the wind and buy it anyway.)

  • This looks like a very wearable colour :). I might have to try it out!

Since I started wearing lipstick, I notice that even the very “natural” looking ones do add quite a pop of colour, and then I get a bit embarrassed when I’m asked “Are you wearing lipstick?”. I want a natural lipstick to be a “my lips but better” look, and not so much that it’s noticeable.

  • This is a great pick. Can definitely be intimidating to some, but it is so unbelivable wearable.

  • anna

It’s a great shade of lipstick. Though I agree about the texture of MAC lipsticks.

  • I’m not a lipstick wearer either but I too love that photo of Leighton! That shade looks gorgeous on you – it might have to be one of my first as well 🙂

  • Love the eye makeup and crosswires combo! I’ve been eyeing crosswires for years and can’t believe I don’t have it yet. That will need to change.

  • Oh my! What a pretty lipstick and I love how prettily your look goes together with it. I’ll check this out when I go and look for the Viva Glam V 😉

  • Crosswires is one of those shades I keep meaning to pick up, but it reminds me of too many other pinky corals that I keep neglecting it. Aww~ It’s so nice to reminisce!

  • Wow your name is Ar(r)ianne too!? That’s awesome, sorry I get excited when I meet another with my name.

  • What a gorgeous look on you. Love the lipstick AND the neutral eye…!
