Toronto peeps: if you always thought that our city could use more greenery, here’s your chance to help make that happen. On Thursday April 21, 2011, Pure + simple will be supporting the Toronto Parks & Trees Foundation’s ‘See the Forest for the Trees: Help Double Toronto’s Tree Canopy’ initiative.

This Earth Day, Pure + simple will plant a tree in the City of Toronto for every 10 transactions. ”As a local company we know how vital local support is and how it can be easily overlooked for more well-known causes, which are equally important, but this year we chose to contribute to a local cause,” says Kristen Ma, co-owner and author of Beauty: Pure + simple. “These trees will not only make Toronto more beautiful, but they will help make Toronto healthier and will continue to do so for many years,” she continues.
As a thank you, customers who spend over $20 will receive a sustainable and eco-friendly hemp/cotton blend tote bag that says “I helped plant a tree!” Cute yeah?

And don’t worry if you can’t make it out on April 21 — the bags will be available for purchase ($6.95) with 100% of proceeds will be donated to help double Toronto’s tree canopy.
Besides their amazing and effective products, what I love about Pure + simple are their many green initiatives:
- Bottle recycling program. Clients who bring back their empty glass bottles to any Pure + simple spa from the Pure + simple Brand are eligible for $1 off of their next Pure + simple brand purchase. The returned glass bottles are then re-sterilized and reused. Best of all, clients can combine returned bottles/dollars towards their next Pure + simple brand product purchase.
- Packaging. The packaging for the Pure + simple brand products is bare, there practically isn’t any. You see what you buy. Boxes and plastic inserts are an excess that Pure + simple has mindfully omitted.
- Refills. In early 2009 the first refills for the Pure + simple Pressed Powder Foundations were introduced and is now a staple of the Pure + simple Mineral Foundation Makeup Line. As a result, the powder foundation containers can be reused an infinite number of times.
If you can’t decide on what to get, try a facial (the Urban Renewal or Super Hydrating are my favourites!) or check out my reviews of some of their products. I hope you can make it.

I would go! But I don’t live in TO.
It’s a great idea!
