Still Scared of Orange Lips? Here are 3 More (Tamer) Ways to Wear the Trendy Colour for Spring and Summer.

So you’ve read our tips on how to pull off a full-on orange lip. You want to get in on the trend but when you tried it in store, you saw yourself transported back to the ’80s. I can totally understand. But just like the red lip, you can gradually work yourself up until you are ready to wear that neon orange shade.

While you are building up the courage to wear that orange pout loud and proud, here are three easier ways for you to rock the tangerine lips now.

#1 — Try a Bright Semi-Sheer Lipgloss.

You probably saw this coming; the easiest way to try a new bold shade is to go sheer. I’m not a lipgloss kinda girl but Annabelle has one of, if not the best lipglosses from the Canadian drugstore shelves.  Annabelle Volumelip Lip Plumping Gloss in So Sanguine ($8.50) is one of four new additions to the permanent colour range, and it is hot!  Like the other Volumelip shade I’ve tried, So Sanguine has the best consistency for layering and has no shimmer.

#2 — Go Get a Muted Orange Lipstick.

It might be a surprise to you but there are many different options out there when it comes to orange lipsticks.  You don’t have to wear a neon shade to start (or ever).  YSL Rouge Pur Couture in 16 Rouge Roxane ($37) is a great pick.  The shade is a bit hard to describe.  It’s a mix of rose, orange, and a tiny bit of gold sheen.  It’s very wearable even for the most conservative office.

#3 — Are You a Pink Lip Kinda Girl? Layer an Orange Lipgloss over Your Favourite Fuchsia Lipstick.

Ladies, you might want to sit down for this one because it will blow your mind! :)

YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick in 7 Le Fuchsia is So Hot, They Called it “The Fuchsia.”

O hai! I’m sure by now you already know all about my thing for bright lips.  Let’s kick it up a notch, shall we?  This is YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick in 7 Le Fuchsia ($37).  Yes, they really did just call this colour “The Fuchsia,” as in you shall not have other fuchsia lipsticks besides this one.  Behold…

Before I say anything else, can I just say how I just love brand imprints on my lipstick?  I don’t care if it’s drugstore or high end; I think all lipsticks should have the brands imprinted on the bullet.

How about a swatch?  By the way, I’m so so pleased with how crisp this lip swatch was.  I always worry that I’d ruin such a beautiful lipstick on a horrible lip swatching job.  But I digress…

YSL doesn’t mess around with this fuchsia.  It is an opaque, bright blue pink that stops traffic, kicks ass and takes names.  The finish is a soft matte, kinda like my favourite red lipstick.  This colour, like all other blue-based pinks makes my teeth look like they’ve just been treated with Crest white strips.

The Rouge Pur Couture line has an SPF 15 and a perfume-y rose scent that lingers for about 10 minutes.  My nose doesn’t like it, but it’s not all that bad.  Maybe I can de-scent it by leaving the cap off for a day.

Revamping Black Eyeliner: A Recreation of Giorgio Armani Runway Look.

Giorgio Armani Fall 2011 Fashion Week / Source: style.com

Since I haven’t done a look in a while, I want to get away from the usual smoky eyes or bright lips, and venture into the world of fun eyeliner. :)  My usual eyeliner regimen is pretty boring; I usually just wear black or brown, or maybe some glitter on top.  Today, I’m recreating a look from Giorgio Armani’s Fall 2011 Fashion Week, featuring a double winged eyeliner.

Get the Look

For the eyes, start with a golden pink (MAC Expensive Pink) base all over the lid. Tone down the shimmer by adding a peach (MAC Arena) over the pink. Pat a matte beige (Urban Decay Naked) down the centre of the lid. Next, add depth to the crease with a matte warm brown (MAC Soft Brown) and blend out. Deepen the crease further with a darker matte brown (Urban Decay Buck). Highlight with a sheer pearly pink highlighter (Mary Kay Shade 1 Liquid Illuminator).

For the liner, line both lower and upper waterlines (Giorgio Armani La Femme Bleue Waterproof liner).  Line the upper lash line with gel liner (MAC Blacktrack) and wing out horizontally on the outer corners.  Draw a second line under your lower lash line starting in the centre, leaving a small gap between your lash lines and the liner.  Wing it out parallel to the top line.  Finish off with mascara (Giorgio Armani Eyes To Kill).

For the cheeks, highlight the top of the cheekbones with a sheer pearly pink illuminator (Mary Kay Shade 1 Liquid Illuminator). Run it over the bridge of the nose, cupid’s bow and chin as well. The models don’t look like they are wearing any blush, so no blush for this look.  Lightly contour the cheeks with a deep matte brown (MAKE UP FOR EVER #17 Espresso).

For the lips, line and fill in with a neutral lip liner (NYX Natural), then go over with a neutral lipstick (Vasanti Luxembourg).
