Spring Makeup: Soft Purple FOTD.

Here’s a “pretty” look. I noticed that I don’t usually do pretty. I think it’s because pretty takes a bit more skill than bold looks. Do you agree, or is it the opposite? I got a new purple mascara so I thought I’d take it for a test drive. I’ve worn this look a few times now, and I must say it’s one of my favourites! :)

Products Used

Eyes
Marcelle “Chic Plum” Wet/Dry Eyeshadow Duo (sheer shimmery lavender / greyish purple)
Annabelle “Purple Storm” Smudgeliner (purple)
MAC “Coquette” Eyeshadow (matte warm taupe)
Urban Decay “Zero” 24/7 Liner (black)
Clarins “03 Wonder Violet” Wonder Waterproof Mascara (purple)

Cheeks
MAC “Style” Blush (rosy golden peach)

Lips
FACE atelier “Coral Reef” Lipstick (coral)
FACE atelier “Peach” Lip Glaze (peach)

Face
FACE atelier “#6 Honey” Foundation
theBalm “Medium” Time Balm
Marcelle “Translucent Medium” Face Powder

Get the Look

Apply a shimmery lavender (dry) as a sheer wash all over the lid, inner corner, and inner 1/3 of the lower lash line. With a purple pencil, line the upper lash line, and the outer 2/3 of the lower lash line. Draw the line thicker towards the corner. Using the grayish purple (wet), add more depth by smudging it on top of the liner. This time smoke it out even more on the corners. Blend out the edges. Apply a taupe on the crease to create depth. Line the waterline with a black pencil, then finish off with purple mascara. Apply blush, lipstick, and lipgloss as usual.

LOL, I had to look up what “sharpish” meant. I love this foundation! :)

omg I love this look you did. people usually do neutral eyes w/ blue liner, but purple liner makes this look great. nice mascara! you know, I really think it depends on what you mean by bold. If bold just means bright colors that don’t require too much blending, then prettier looks take more skill. On the other hand, have you seen my tiger lily’s bold looks? see here: http://mytigerlily.wordpress.com/2010/05/02/tribal-bluered-eotd-tutorial/
now that definitely takes way more skill than I have. p.s. dang that foundation is nice! how well does it hold up? I have oily/combo skin, so I like foundations w/ decent oil control

Before I bore you with a long winded response, here’s a link to my review of the foundie. In short, it is awesome for combo/oily skin.

Yes I have seen tiger lily’s bold looks and I am highly jealous of her makeup skillz. :) I think it is definitely in the blending that makes pretty looks harder to do for me. I tend to have a heavy hand and still getting used to layering colours lightly.

Yay I love this look too! The great thing is that you can switch out the purple for any colour you like — green, brown, gold, blue, peach and it would look just as good. :)

I really like the purple mascara on you :D doing ‘pretty’ looks is hard for me too, mostly because I’m never satisfied with how they look, and I always feel compelled to throw in some obnoxiously bright colour.

LOL I know what you mean. Me too. Maybe it’s the lighting but sometimes I can’t see the colour so I add more. Then I finally get outside and bam! that’s a lot of blush. :P

So pretty! I never do ‘pretty’ either. I need to try this and now you’ve more than convinced me to try purple…and solidified my need for Coquette!
