Shopping my Makeup Drawer: GOSH Velvet Touch Waterproof Eyeliner in Bananas.

This s#!% is Bananas!  B-A-N-A-N-A-S!  GOSH Velvet Touch Waterproof Eyeliner in Bananas is a very light pearly yellow. I remember getting this when GOSH eyeliners were 40% off at Shoppers Drug Mart.  This was one of those “swatch-and-go” impulse buys.

After trying this once, I admit that it remained untouched in my vanity drawer for months.  I kept thinking, “Why did I buy this?  It doesn’t work for my skin tone at all.”  Then something amazing happened.  I read Beauty Geek Janine’s post about Speedy Makeup Tricks to Look Great with Little Effort, where she mentioned this very pencil.

For those of you who (like me) think you look strange wearing white eyeliner — to be honest it looks so stupid on me — this is the perfect alternative.  GOSH Bananas opens up the eye for those tired days, and stays put on my waterline all day.  It went through watery eyes (thanks to seasonal allergies!) and a teary breakdown (thanks to a sad video on Vimeo!) and still held strong.

This stays on better than my dear Urban Decay 24/7 pencils, for about half the cost.  They come in a wide variety of colours, so even you colour lovers will definitely find something that you like.  In fact, GOSH Velvet Touch Eyeliner is so good that I’m giving it a spot in my holy grail.  Amazing!  Rating: A+++++

MAC Hello Kitty Inspired FOTD.

Whenever I see a look I like, I save it in the “Makeup” folder on my computer for future reference.  Back then, I wasn’t doing FOTDs for the blog, but now I feel more confident in my makeup application skills that you all get to see what sort of looks I dig! :)

This FOTD is inspired by the Hello Kitty Wild: Stylin’ face chart that was released by MAC in the Hello Kitty Collection last Spring.  I never do my eyes this way so it was fun to try something new.  I thought the result wasn’t too shabby, no?

Get the Look

The key to this look is a good pointed crease blending brush; my favourite to use is MAC #226 (LE). You don’t have to use this brush, but it will be easier to do the look with a pointed crease brush similar to this.

For the eyes: taking a bright violet (Auraline bright violet), use the tip of the crease brush to trace out a wing shape on the outer corner, and a rounded shape on the inner corner. Fill in the shape you drew out, and blend out slightly.  Don’t over blend!  Next, take a golden shimmery pink (MAC Expensive Pink) to fill in the rest of the lid space.  Using a clean flat eyeshadow brush, drag and blend the violet into the pink.  To make the eyes pop even more, draw a shimmery white gold (LIFT Cosmetics Moon Dust) line down the middle of the lid.  Blend it in to the pink.  Line the lower lash line with a violet eyeliner (GOSH Funky Violet).  Smudge bright violet on top for more colour intensity and smokiness.  Wing out the top lash line with black eyeliner, then line the waterlines as well. Blend a warm brown (MAC Soft Brown) above the lid colours to warm up the brow bone.  Add mascara and lashes!

For the cheeks: apply a low shimmer peach (MAC Peaches + MAC Arena) on the apples.  Use bronzer (Lise Watier Havana) to contour the cheekbones.

For the lips: dab a peach or orange lipstick (Marcelle Flame) lightly all over the lips.  Top with a sheer shimmery gloss (Smashbox Luster).

Get a Natural Glow with Marcelle Face Powder.

If you know me, I’ve mentioned numerous times on this blog that I don’t like loose powders when it comes to makeup.  However, the opportunity came up and for the love of beauty, I am trying Marcelle’s Face Powder in Translucent Medium.

Ingredients

TALC, PARAFFINUM LIQUIDUM/MINERAL OIL/HUILE MINÉRALE, IMIDAZOLIDINYL UREA, METHYLPARABEN, PROPYLPARABEN, BHA, and may contain: TITANIUM DIOXIDE , IRON OXIDES, METHICONE, ULTRAMARINES.

A Stay-at-Home Powder (The Outside)

The packaging is a huge plastic container with a sifter, approximately 3 inches in diameter.  The wide diameter is great for swishing a brush around.  The container is quite heavy and very well constructed —  no cheap plastic packaging here.  For this reason, I would not take this for travel.  I love it for this actually, because I already have a powder compact to take with me on the go.

Extra Smooth, Extra Smooth (The Inside)

Now let’s talk about the contents shall we?  This hypo-allergenic and perfume-free powder is so silky smooth, you can’t feel it on the skin.  In fact, after application, the Translucent Medium blends in perfectly onto my skin.  Can a powder be both mattifying and naturally glowy?  Because this is how well Marcelle face powder works.  Check out my Very Toned Down Hollywood FOTD; you’ll see what I mean.

The staying power is fantastic.  I usually wipe off my face (LOL!) around 11:00 pm and all my face makeup applied from the morning gets wiped off.  Oh, and you know what else?  Because it is not chalky, this is perfect for setting my creamy under eye concealer!

This is the only powder I use at home now, and I love it as much as my MAC Mineralized Skin Finish Natural (which I now only use for travel and touch ups).  If you don’t have a loose powder  that you already love, I highly recommend this one.  As someone who has a strong dislike for loose powders, I have absolutely no complaints -- it is total perfection! Rating: A+.
