New Year’s Eve FOTD: Bold Red Lips!

Is it just me, or does everybody else think that your New Year’s Eve makeup is a big and important decision? After looking through countless photos, I finally made the decision to go with a bold red lip.  I’ve been too chicken to rock the red lip in the past, but 2010 is my time.  There’s no looking back now, sisters! 😀

Get the Look

For the eyes, first apply a shimmery champagne on the lid.  I used a cream shadow under a powder shadow for increased intensity.  Apply a matte cool medium brown to the crease.  Then, deepen the crease with a matte chocolate brown.  Highlight the brow bone and inner corners.  Dip a creamy black pencil into a black gel eyeliner, then line both the lower and upper waterlines.  Curl your lashes, then add your biggest, baddest mascara.

For the cheeks, add a bronze blush to the apples of your cheeks (smile!).  Contour the hollow part of your cheeks with a matte brown that is two shades darker than your skin tone.

For the lips, first line with a red lip liner that matches your lipstick.  Then, fill in your entire lips.  Apply your lipstick, blot any excess, then apply again.  Now you’re good to go!  Just don’t forget to take your lipstick with you for touch ups.

Lessons Learned

  • My mother and my brother both think that a soft eye and bold lips suit me better than smoky eyes.  I do like the effect, but I love me a hot smoky eye!
  • Urban Decay Zero Pencil dipped in MAC Blacktrack Fluidline has incredible staying power on the waterline.  Thanks Marlena at Makeup for the tip!
  • I eat less when I’m self-conscious of my bold red lips bleeding out.  I am calling it the new red lip diet.
  • Matte lipstick can dry out your lips so apply lip balm prior to putting on colour.  Just make sure to blot out any extra lip balm!

What Look did you Rock this New Year’s Eve?

I’m dying to see pictures! Did you go the smokey eye route, or do a bold lip as well? Or did you wear something else completely?
