Thanks for the Good Times, 2010: Our Best Posts of the Year.

2010 was a fantastic year for me and Glitter Geek. Our readership has grown so much, which I can only attribute to the huge support of Beauty Blog Link Love, the Toronto Beauty Bloggers, and of course, our fantastic and loyal readers.  Your support keeps me testing, writing, swatching, and taking countless photos for the blog.  Thank you so much, from the bottom of my sparkly heart! :)

Whether you’re a new reader or an old friend, you are definitely in for a treat!  In this post, I’ve compiled a list of my favourite posts (and yours, based on your comments) from the past year.

This Year, I Grew as an Artist.

I am not calling myself a makeup artist, but this year I improved a lot artistically.  I finally conquered my fear of bold lips, and experimented with different techniques and eyeshadow placements.  I’m not stopping now, so watch out 2011!

This Year, I Discovered Great Low and High End Products.

This Year, I Had Fun.

What Were Your Beauty Highlights of 2010?

Go Shawty, It’s Your Birthday: A Blue and Gold FOTD.

Blue and gold is one of my favourite colour combinations, and after a long and hard decision making I went with a blue and gold smoky eye for my 24th birthday.  I enjoyed creating this smoky eye since I haven’t done one in a while.  I quite like how it turned out. :)

Swatches (from left): Urban Decay Half Baked, MAKE UP FOR EVER 167 Iridescent True Blue, Annabelle B-Ray, MAC Brun, MAC All That Glitters, MAC Soft Brown

Get the Look

For the eyes, pat a gold eyeshadow (UD Half Baked) all over the inner two thirds of the lid.  Run the same eyeshadow on the inner one third of the lower lash line.  Pat a vibrant shimmery blue (MUFE 167) on the outer one third of the lid, and blend into the gold.  On the outer V and crease, apply a matte dark navy (Annabelle B-Ray) in a cat eye shape and blend.  Smudge the same eyeshadow on the outer two thirds of the lower lash line.  To deepen the navy, go over it with a deep cool brown (MAC Brun) on the outer crease and lower lash line.  Soften the blue eyeshadow by blending a medium warm matte brown (MAC Soft Brown) above the navy.  Highlight the brow bone with a shimmery beige (MAC All That Glitters).

Line the waterlines and upper lash line with a black eyeliner (Urban Decay Zero).  Add some false lashes (Ardell Wispies) and mascara (Marcelle Power Volume mascara) to the top lashes.

For the cheeks, contour the hollows of the cheeks with a dark matte brown (MAKE UP FOR EVER #17 Espresso Eyeshadow). Apply a brownish peach blush (MAC Cantaloupe) on the apples of your cheeks. Highlight the cheekbones with a shimmery gold (MAC Gold Studio Finish Face Powder).

For the lips, apply a neutral pink lipstick (Chanel Mademoiselle Rouge Coco). Highlight the middle of the lips with a shimmery gold (MAC Gold Studio Finish Face Powder).
