Ladies, my Urban Decay Primer Potion has been dethroned. Meet my new love, Too Faced Shadow Insurance (CAD $24).
I think it’s just fair to do a comparison between the two.
Too Faced Shadow Insurance
- Better texture, non-drying
- Fantastic applicator
- Lasts for about 8 hours before very minimal creasing
Urban Decay Primer Potion
- Absolutely no creasing
- God-awful packaging
I was skeptical on how well this would work out, since it applied a lot creamier than its Urban Decay counterpart. Because of this, it also takes more time to dry. But once it sets, it leaves a perfect clean base for your liner, eyeshadow, or nothing at all.
I find that UDPP was slightly better at controlling the oil slicks, but because of this it is also slightly drying to the skin around the eyes. I find that TFSI does the job well enough with very very minimal creasing. Also, I find that because TFSI is creamier, eyeshadows are easier to blend than when using UDPP.
Where TFSI wins big time over UDPP is in its packaging. I think the folks at Urban Decay is making a colossal FAIL by not changing their packaging by now. It’s such a pain to open up the awkwardly shaped bottle to scoop out extra product. I did this and used UDPP for 6 months out of a clean contact lens case, but it dried up so fast to be useful. With TFSI, I am guaranteed to squeeze out perfectly creamy product every. single. time.
The final verdict? I will continue to buy Too Faced Shadow Insurance until Urban Decay changes UDPP’s awful packaging. Rating: A.
